Pura Dalem Ubud is a pretty interesting temple in Ubud, conveniently located on the main street with plenty of attractions and restaurants nearby, so you can grab a meal after visiting. The temple itself isn’t huge, but the architecture is really intricate, especially the statues and carvings, which are very Balinese and great for photos.
The highlight is the evening Barong Dance performance. The storyline is a bit fantastical (with monkeys, monsters, and witches all making an appearance), which kids might find fascinating, and adults can soak in the cultural vibe. That said, if you’re not into religious or cultural stuff, it might feel a bit repetitive.
Quick tip: You’ll need to wear a sarong to enter the temple, which you can rent at the entrance, and dress modestly. The best time to visit is in the evening—you can see the temple in daylight and catch the performance at night.
Overall, Pura Dalem Ubud is a good spot for a quick visit, especially if you’re interested in Balinese culture. If you’re short on time, you could skip it, but if you want to dive deeper into local traditions, it’s worth...
Read more*FYI This is Review for the Night Show not the temple itself
I mean no disrespect at all but what a loada rubbish.
The music wasn’t to be taste , imagine primary school children playing all there instruments at once and then that noise going on for the entirety of the show.
The dances whilst intriguing for the first minute. But after the 10th, you contemplating what brought you there. How many times can you watch someone twiddle their fingers. (32 minutes for us)
It is a shame as this maybe traditional but it was so not interesting. It was very repetitive and slow, for example the dragon stood in the doorway for 5 minutes just twitching. Maybe there is another way to make it more engaging. We couldn’t even make it to the end, neither could 30 other people who also walked out at the same...
Read moreI had the privilege to join the sacred ceremony on the day before New Moon which also coincided with the first day of this temple's Odalan. My friend and the other foreign students from ISI Denpasar performed Gamelan at the temple, amazing!!! Highly recommend coming to this temple, I'm not sure how their own performances are as we weren't allowed to go into the main shrine (I think only Balinese were allowed that day), but come join a ceremony if you have a local friend! This temple also makes unique turmeric rice mixed with other herbs. We were told that this specific type of turmeric rice is only cooked in this temple. Tasty! If you come for a ceremony, not the regular tourist performance, then be sure to wear proper clothes, for women, you...
