Hadn't heard of this place before visiting Ubud. Visiting the monkey forest wasn't something I was interested in so the car driver offered the museum as an option. It was a very good suggestion; one that I was happy with. We got there just after midday and it cost IDR 145K for entry into the place. Was a very enjoyable place to visit and it wasn't very crowded during my visit. The gardens are quite nice and provided a soothing atmosphere when compared to the hustle and bustle outside. One of the halls seemed to have air conditioning while the others were a bit warmer. What I found out was that included in the entrance fee was a very well laid out buffet. Unfortunately, I had already had a big meal at another place AND so was unable to have even one bite! The young waitress and the lady at the ticket were more than happy for me to return in the next couple of days to gorge myself on the buffet. However, due to the logistical issues I was unable to take them up on the offer. Some of the other commitments here mention about a lower entrance fee. Not sure if that was available as I wasn't offered the option.
All in all, THIS place should DEFINITELY be on everyone's list when they visit Ubud!
Forget the bloody monkey forest; if you are really keen on seeing monkeys or monkeyIike behaviour, I suggest that you go around to the popular drinking spots or rowdy karaoke places in your city/town on any weekend. Bet there's going to be a lot of young people in various stages of intoxication to keep you...

o My favorite was the "crazy" Artist. Go in and find it out o Even if I am not an expert I liked the works and the green parc with ponds and fishes. It's a place where you can calming down and find peace from the crowd outside.

Read moreMuseum puri lukisan ("palace of painting") was the brainchild of Ubud's prince cokorda gede Agung sukawati and Dutch painter Rudolf Bonnet. It was conceived in 1953 out of concern that Bali's finest works of art were disappearing into private collections around the world. The museums holdings are mainly 20th century Balinese painting and wood sculptures including important collections from the 1930s. The grounds with their gardens and ponds, are a shady, tranquil oasis in the centre of Ubud. The density of Balinese painting is extraordinary. Even with little or no background in the arts, the viewer can enter the imaginative world of Balinese culture as represented by both traditional and modern painting. It is a good idea to look at a Balinese work from a distance at first to see it's graphic composition before moving nearer to inspect the detail of the contentm close inspection reveals tiny scenes being enacted by the inhabitants...
