Maya Ubud Review (Special Thanks to our Butler Eka)
Our 3-night, 4-day stay at Maya Ubud was truly an unforgettable and unique experience. It was our children’s very first trip abroad, and thanks to this hotel, it became a wonderful memory for our family. Above all, our Butler Eka made our stay extraordinary, and I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to him.
■ Overall Impression
The design of the resort, with its thatched roofs and Hindu-inspired interiors and exteriors, reflects the essence of Ubud. The vast property is immaculately maintained, blending seamlessly with the surrounding nature. I have deep respect for the architects and great appreciation for all the staff who maintain such high standards of cleanliness and elegance. Even at the entrance gate, the security check was thorough and gave us a strong sense of safety throughout our stay.
■ Hospitality
This was our first time experiencing a butler system, and it was truly invaluable. Communicating with our butler via WhatsApp felt as natural as messaging a friend—we could easily arrange restaurant and spa reservations, ask about sightseeing in Ubud, or request assistance for our room.
What impressed us most was Eka’s genuine warmth. His hospitality was heartfelt and far beyond businesslike service. We could feel that our happiness was directly linked to his, which deeply touched us. He responded swiftly and sincerely whenever we had small concerns, allowing our children to feel secure and our family to stay in total comfort.
The most unforgettable moment came on our final day. My wife and I wanted to experience the spa, but the only available slots were after checkout and after the kids’ club closed. Normally, this would have meant giving up. But Eka kindly adjusted his own schedule and looked after our children until our treatment finished. When we returned, seeing our kids walk toward us with big smiles alongside Eka brought us immense happiness. Thanks to his thoughtful gesture, I was able to give my wife a truly special spa experience, something we will remember forever.
■ Dining
The meals were both delicious and beautifully presented. Breakfast was a daily highlight, offering not only standard dishes but also Balinese specialties and fresh fruit & herb drinks. Dinner was unforgettable as well, especially watching the fire dance performance while dining.
The restaurant staff, including Dewi, Parnata, and Ayu, always welcomed us with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. Their friendly conversations and helpful advice on sightseeing made every morning feel refreshing and meaningful. (To the other staff whose names we missed, thank you as well!)
■ Spa & Pool
The spa was truly exceptional. We chose the 2-hour “Jet Lag Course,” and while the massage itself was fantastic, the flower bath in a thatched-roof villa overlooking the valley was beyond words. Surrounded by birdsong and the sound of the river, it was an experience only Maya Ubud can offer. The infinity pool was also stunning—designed to flow seamlessly into the jungle, it provided a breathtaking and comfortable space where our children were delighted to play.
Maya Ubud is a place where nature, architecture, cuisine, spa, and above all, heartfelt hospitality come together in perfect harmony. Thanks to our Butler Eka, our very first family trip abroad became a precious memory we will cherish forever.I truly hope the management appreciates his outstanding dedication.

Read moreMy friend and I enjoyed an amazing 4N5D stay at Maya Ubud. We needed a break from life and this was the perfect place.
When you arrive at Maya Ubud, it is amazing. The gardens on the drive in and the resort are breath taking. Its so romantic and probably why there were many couples ,old and young, staying at the resort. There are 2 pools to relax in and they both look so inviting. We spent alot of time in the family pool nearest to our room, but the river pool is a walk on the otherside with the spa. Laying in the pool watching leaves fall from the forest trees.
We did as many experiences as we could during our stay. We attended Maya Spa and enjoyed a total of 4 hours worth of treatments during our stay. Anani was with me for all my treatments and she was wonderful and kind. The spa staff were very efficient and friendly, booking through whatsapp was very responsive and easy.
The F&B staff were the best. Breakfast was wonderful, we couldn't eat all the selection during our stay because there was alot. All their staff were so friendly and they knew our names by the end of our stay. Special thanks to Dewi and Ayu. We were almost sure Ayu never goes home haha, she was there during our teppanyaki dinner and at breakfast. Sadewa works very hard and I appreciated his extra efforts. I will say that I didnt enjoy the coffee, it was quite bitter on some days but ok other days.
I reccomend the cooking class, it was so fun with Wayan and Ayu. They make it easy and fun and I learnt some new cooking techniques. Balinese food really is amazing. Ayu was even our personal photographer during the lesson so we have some wonderful memories to keep.
Teppanyaki was something we are always happy we did too. Chef Wayan showed us his skills, and he really likes to start the fire on the grill ahha. Booking all our reservations through whatsapp was simple and easy and they made sure everyone was aware of my seafood allergy. They would always tell me if someonthing had seafood and made adjustments for me.
We also enjoyed the fire dance show on our first night and our reservation gave us a dinner table in the first row. These extra activities which are free, including the free morning yoga class and meditation class i joined make this resort really good value! When you arrive, they give you the timetable for events and activities, definately do as many as you can during your stay because they all help you create new core memories.
Lastly we decided to stay in a forest suite which was perfect. Two balconies, close to the restaurants (we love the Tree Bar) and close to the family pool and yoga pavilion. The room was wonderful, daily housekeeping, prompt service when extra items were requested, indoor dining was quick too. We were glad we didn't stay in a villa because they are a bit of a walk.
I was worried abt insects but during my whole stay, I did not get bitten once. The hotel provide a really nice floral mozzie repellent cream in your room which smells wonderful! This is so thoughtful and these little things make me love the resort even more.
I will be back soon, hopefully with my family for another relaxing stay. Thank you so much Maya Ubud and all the staff that looked after us two girls during our stay. We felt safe and looked after...

I shall try and keep this review as unbiased as possible despite my dreadful experience. I am posting it so others do not face the potential problems I did.
I booked a “ Heavenly Jacuzzi villa” for myself and my two teenagers. The hotel website claimed it was 245 sqm. I expected space, privacy, and the extra touches promised on the Maya Ubud website. However, when we arrived, it was immediately clear that this was completely untrue. ‘ Heavenly’ it was not, cramped would be a better description. The villa was no bigger than around 35 sqm, nowhere near the size advertised. The bathroom door did not shut properly and had bizarre cut outs meaning little privacy. The villa was very dated and in dire need of renovation, The view of a sewage plant and tennis courts, not the picturesque rice fields shown online. The bathtub took over an hour to fill, and the water was barely warm. The jacuzzi was not filled with water, although this was the least of our concerns. When I raised the space and privacy issue with management, they were defensive and unhelpful. I asked to move to two connecting rooms (which would cost the same as what I had already paid for the villa) but they refused unless I paid for one room all over again, even though the villa was already double the price of a standard room.
When we eventually moved to a standard room, it was modern, bright, and well furnished, with a fast-filling, piping-hot bath. In truth, the standard room was much larger and more luxurious than the villa, even though it cost half the price. Since our stay, the hotel has changed the room description on its website. It now says the 240 sqm “indoor and outdoor space”, but still doesn’t give an exact size for the interior. The fact remains: the villa itself is smaller than the cheaper standard room, and this feels deliberately misleading. The website also clearly states that guests receive a butler and complimentary daily afternoon tea. When we arrived, none of this was mentioned — we were never introduced to a butler, and never informed about the afternoon tea, meaning we missed out entirely. This lack of communication was extremely disappointing. To their credit, the staff were genuinely lovely and eager to help, and the restaurant served excellent food at very fair prices.
However, the experience ended on a very unpleasant note. On the day we left, I developed severe bed-bug bites on my stomach. I sent photos through my travel agent, but the hotel’s response was dismissive — they claimed to have inspected the room and found no bed bugs, suggesting it must have been an allergy, which it absolutely was not. There was no apology, no mention of fumigation, and no concern shown. I had to throw away an expensive pair of silk pyjamas to avoid taking the bed bugs with me. It’s a great shame, because the grounds are stunning, the location is great and the staff and restaurant are very good. BUT misleading advertising, poor management, and lack of accountability overshadow everything.
If anyone else has experienced bed bugs at the Maya Ubud, please contact me — it would be helpful to know if this was an isolated incident which they have dealt with or part of a...
