The food here is very, very catered to the European palette, to the point that the few local dishes have their spices neutered. The western dishes are ok, not wow, but acceptable, but the local dishes? No go.
The seafood laksa was watery, had no spice, and the noodles looked like instant noodles, which, was outrageous.
The beef rendang is pretty much boiled beef and the colour of a watery beef stew, without chilli, sambal or any spice beyond salt. In fact, the spicy tuna penne (which was not bad for Western food) was spicier than the beef rendang. Imagine that.
We also tried their chicken curry. It tastes like what Jamie Oliver would make - watery, with little coconut milk and no spices (lemongrass, pandan, cinnamon, etc) whatsoever.
I think it would be ok if the food was advertised as a more European palette but even the menu photos of the local food look legit, which was why we were quite disappointed. But honestly at these prices, which were like 2x the usual prices you get in Ubud, we expect the local food to be authentic, as how their Western food is.
The only saving grace was that the restaurant manager and her colleagues had amazing service and were nice enough to replace our meals with something else at no extra charge. However, what I wasnât happy with was when the first complaint from our table regarding the food was heard, we could hear the waitress gossiping in Bahasa about the first complaint to the chef, which honestly wasnât very professional. It was only after multiple complaints regarding multiple dishes from our table that the manager that attempted some form of service recovery.
All in all, if you are looking for local Indonesian food, stay away from this place. The TripAdvisorâs Travellerâs Choice that was awarded here had to be from a...
Read moreDisappointing! I don't understand all this good reviews. First of all the menu which you can see on the pictures is not up-to-date. The prices almost doubled!! The service: We waited 20 minutes or more to get our drinks. And 1,5 hours to get our food, but there were not too many other people in the restaurant (half full). And they all waited long. The food: I ordered the vegetarian burger and the tempeh inside was almost cold and burnd. The bread was crusty outside which is not good. I ordered it with french fries but I got wedges. They said they were out of french fries when they brought me the plate. It would have been fine if they told me right after I ordered. Then I would have chosen something else. Otherwise the taste and the sauce was quite good. My girlfriend had a "pizza margherita" (if you can call it that way) and the pumpkin soup. There was almost no flavour to it. No oregano or salt. The dough was not a pizza dough. I don't know what it was. It was also thin and way too crusty, like a strudel dough. The tomato sauce had also no flavour to it. Italy would be ashamed. In general the portions were rather small. Only five pieces of wedges and the pizza was children size.
The positive thing was the drinks. The lemon tea was good. Another good thing is that they have a nice location and the staff is also kind.
I also tried to give feedback regarding the food. But the only thing they did was smile and say thank you and sorry.
I would not recommend this restaurant at all as the price is way too high for...
