Booked Ubud Sayan Heaven with a Travelzoo voucher which included a number of things including a 2 course meal each per stay, discounts on food and spa, one way transfer etc. |1. Access around this property is only possible via very steep steps - which is not mentioned on their website or when booking. Not helpful for someone with knee and back injuries like myself |2. First night the restaurant was closed due to the stove being “broken” - we were directed to the local Asian / Latin Fusion restaurant which was somewhat of a huge markup in standard (and price) compared to the food at the hotel |3. Day 2 the free “scheduled” shuttle at 11am dropped us in Ubud Central and refused to pick us back up at 2.30pm as was advertised as being scheduled. No prior warning and no advise was given as to how to get back to the hotel and how much we should pay in a taxi. Just a sorry you have to get out now |4. Day 2 evening we decided to take advantage of the included 2 course meal of our voucher - upon checkout we were charged for this meal and the receptionist refused to remove it from the bill. Upon challenging this once I returned home - the hotel stayed that it was a limited menu of Mie Goreng or Nasi Goreng only - so what? 1 for appetiser and the other for main meal? No clue and we nearly missed our flight due to the unsuccessful argument over what was written in black and white on my and the hotels copy of the voucher inclusions and no mention of these 2 meals by name |5. Day 3 we went for a walk along the back of the hotel where we found amazing little family run warungs with amazing, cheap and great tasting food - we had asked when we checked in if there were any places to eat in the area and we were told no just Sayan House (fusion) or the Four Seasons. This makes no sense to us why the hotel wouldn’t promote other small local businesses |6. During the checkout process I saw 2 rats run along the roof beam between the kitchen and the reception|7. The rooms are a bit run down - dirty mouldy shower, stained mosquito net and when the pool filters are turned off - it’s very obviously the pools are not maintained properly ||It is a very beautiful, secluded and quiet location - most of the staff made a good effort to provide service but simply arent trained very well (eg. Don’t know where to set down plates or cutlery on the table or even where to place glasses while serving). Their lack of training is evident in their ability to communicate with their customers to provide a basic level of professional service||I would not recommend this hotel - which is a shame as it is in a very beautiful location for anyone who is just looking to get away from it all and spend a bit of time within...
Read moreAfter staying for 5 nights I have mixed feelings about our time here. The positives: It is quiet. When you are relaxing in your own private courtyard you hear the birds and the trees in the wind. It is away from the hustle and bustle of a main street Pool is clean and a decent size plunge pool however no steps to climb in and out so you need to be mobile Backyard is lushious and mostly private with plant hedging however the grass could use a mow Room service is quick and the food we ordered for dinner and lunch was tasty and very well priced All staff we encountered were polite and helpful Did feel safe during our stay as the gate to each villa is key lockable as are the bedroom doors. The surrounding streets also feel safe.
The negatives: You have to order your breakfast the night before. Which is fine if you know what you feel like however when it arrives it is often cold and tastes like it has been cooked earlier and then reheated. It is a disappointing contrast to the other food which is made to order. We ended up sourcing our breakfast elsewhere. limited times available for housekeeping. As we were unwell during our stay we wanted to relax in the room before heading out in the afternoon and asked for housekeeping in the afternoon which we were told wasn't possible The aircon in one of the rooms we stayed in kept making loud mechanical noises every night The bathroom in one of the rooms also had a bad sewage smell that would go when cleaned but return shortly after which was off-putting If you have limited mobility you will struggle with the location to access many things on foot. A cart service is provided to help take yourself and your bags back to the road accessible by cars as the villas are located on a bike/ scooter only street No door at the entry of the villa that we stayed in so we would suggest keeping your bedroom doors closed as bugs do come in at night. This same area is also very hot as the fan does little to cool it down.
It was a nice enough stay however we will look to explore other options should we return...

This place is a beautifully ambient and cozy retreat, perfect for a relaxing getaway. Surrounded by nature, the resort offers a serene atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for those seeking peace and tranquility. I traveled with my wife and 1.5-year-old baby, so my experience reflects that perspective.

Cons: 🚗 Limited Accessibility – No direct car access to the resort. Guests are transported via a complimentary buggy service from a designated pick-up point. 🐜 Close to Nature – Expect insects like large lizards and mosquitoes, which were even active on our roof at night. 🚿 Semi-Private Bathrooms – Open design with plant borders, reducing privacy. 📱 Service Access – All services are coordinated via WhatsApp, as no in-house landline is provided. 🥞 Limited Breakfast Options – Needs to be pre-ordered, offering only a small selection. 💡 Dim Lighting – The rooms have minimal lighting, which can be straining on the eyes.
