Hotel La Rocca — Hotel in Gubbio

We recently returned from a 6-week trip to Italy during which we stayed at 12 different lodgings. This hotel was below average. It was difficult to get to (we were driving) because it is in the restricted driving zone within the city walls. In addition, the city had the road to the hotel closed for utility work (not the hotel's fault), but it made it very frustrating on our arrival in Assisi. The hotel staff was not very helpful nor friendly, and somewhat surly (probably because it was the end of the tourist season). The room was the smallest one we stayed in 6 weeks; barely enough room to get around the bed. The bathroom was small even by Italian standards (they are all consistently small). The breakfast was the worst we had in Italy; even the coffee was bad (a harsh complaint given that the coffee in Italy is consistently very good). Service during breakfast was slow and not engaged. A few positive things; the room was clean and quiet at night. The hotel has a very nice terrace above the lobby that is quite nice to spend the morning or late afternoon on with a glass of wine. Qualsiasi cosa vi accadrà , lunica spiegazione che il personale vi darà sarà questa :" Però abbiamo un gran panorama".|Prenoto 3 camere e una volta arrivato scopriamo che una delle tre camere è senza bidet e già inizio a capire che in che tipo di hotel sono capitato. Appena entrato noto un attivo odore di vecchio tipo chiesa medievale rimasta chiusa dal 1300. Parcheggio inesistente (bisogna parcheggiare lungo una strada molto stretta). Prima di coricarmi noto una bella distesa di polvere sui comodini che la mia compagna ha dovuto togliere per evitare di inalarla tutta durante la notte. Scendiamo a colazione e ci accolgono dei bellissimi biscotti di bassa pasticceria e 4 cornetti ; premetto che la colazione è servita fino le 10 e noi siamo scesi alle 9:20. Un tavolo dietro di noi chiede di poter mangiare un cornetto ma la risposta è stata questa :" Ne è rimasto solo uno" (come Highlander) e tutto ciò ben 40 minuti Prima dellorario di chiusura della colazione. |Sul portachiavi della stanza si può notare un HR con 4 stelle e un numero scritto a penna...evidentemente anni e anni fa era un 4 stelle declassato a 3 ma ovviamente nemmeno la voglia di rifare un portachiavi.|Posto VECCHIO con odore di VECCHIO. Al momento del pagamento ho fatto presente alla signora che se una stanza non ha il bidet lo deve sottolineare quando un cliente prenota ma la risposta è stata :" Pensi che gli stranieri fanno a gara per avere la stanza senza bidet...e poi c'è un bel panorama". Non commento per non essere scortese.|Dopo aver fatto presente anche la questione polvere ,la cara signora mi risponde che non è possibile aver trovato un comodino sporco (in maniera gentile mi ha praticamente dato del bugiardo). NON ANDATE.|L'unica cosa positiva è il panorama che però può essere visto anche senza entrare in questo...

We stayed in Hotel La Rocca from 23rd to 28th December as part of a group. We were on the first floor. The room and the bedding stank of smoke. This may have been because we were directly over the bar. Stay on a higher floor if you can. The bathroom was Ok. The radiator was very hot.
