Hotel Review

Views and Room Comfort Positives: The views are breathtaking from the rooms not located down the stairs. The bed in my room was very comfortable.

Spa Facilities Positives: The spa facilities are nicely built with a small indoor pool and a lovely atmosphere. The hammam and sauna are well-built beautiful and spacious. Negatives: Noise reduction is needed for a more relaxing experience, as customers and even some staff shout across the spa. The hammam and sauna were not always working properly and were barely warm at times. Children used the thermal pool as a play area, with adults speaking loudly and parents screaming at their kids, making it less relaxing.

Dining Experience Positives: The staff are professional, kind, and friendly and work hard to make it a pleasant experience - a big thank you. The food is almost always cooked to perfection, fresh, and tasty, with plenty of local dishes. The breakfast buffet is plentiful and of good quality. I gave feedback on the lack of fruit, which was positively received and resulted in changes. Negatives: Dinner is very late (20:00-21:30) and lacks fresh vegetables. But ask for a salad , which is green mixed leaves and the staff will serve it with no issues. The dining atmosphere isn't great with bright lights, high temperatures, and loud noise, resembling a canteen. There are no white table covers, and the ambiance could be improved with decorations like flowers and candles. The lack of fruit and vegetables is a downside, especially in Italy. ( Check my chicken dish photo - zero vegetables) I haven't seen a single olive during my stay- you'd think you're not in Italy ... Breakfast can be hard to enjoy if still full from the late dinner. Queuing for a fantastic coffee wasn't too long but wasn't relaxing either.

Cleanliness and Maintenance Negatives: Room cleaning was mediocre, with surfaces often left uncleaned, dust everywhere, and sticky residue on the remote control and phone. The cleaning lady sometimes forgot to leave toilet paper, though this was quickly resolved by reporting it to reception. Two of the pools were closed for most of my stay( 7 out of 10 days) without any explanation or apologies. Sound insulation is poor, not suitable for light sleepers, and one morning, someone was moving furniture at 6 am, waking me up several times till 7.30 am

Atmosphere and Events Negatives: One weekend was somewhat disrupted by a hotel conference with too many people at breakfast and around the hotel. The hotel hosted a nightclub-type party for two nights with loud microphone singing and music, which was not to my taste.

Overall Experience Despite some issues, it was a decent stay. Most staff were very friendly and kind, contributing to a nice experience. The positive response to my feedback shows professionalism, customer focus, and a desire to improve, which is great. The location is pretty good too if you're mobile, you can reach the port area with buses within 20 minutes, the sea within 10/15 minutes and the castle within 20 minutes. But it's away from the main road, with local pineta park nearby which is also lovely. A local supermarket is just a 5 mins walk though the...

The hotel is tastefully decorated and the gardens and outdoor pool areas are lovely, with lots of tables and chairs in separate areas. |However, a few negatives we weren't really aware of. |As it's a volcanic island the area is heavily terraced and there's lots of up hill walking and stairs to get around the hotel site. We only found one very small lift by reception. |It's a dog friendly hotel, so be prepared for some barking and people walking around with dogs. We're doggy people so wasn't an issue for us. |There's no tea/coffee making facilities in the room and a notice stating that they don't want you to take any food into the room. There's a mini bar fridge with few things in, but obviously expensive. |We read some reviews regarding the food, but to be honest, the food wasn't very good. At breakfast the hot options were always cold...and we don't like cold scrambled eggs, fried egg or bacon. I found it inedible. We reported it to reception, who told us to ask and they would cook a fresh omelette. |Evening meal was also not too good. Although in an Italian hotel we expected Italian style food, for a hotel catering for international guests, there wasn't any international type food options. (If you get my meaning) Dinner was a rushed affair, the service only being offered from 7.30 to 9pm...an hour and half. You were given the following days menu at dinner and expected to choose your meal for the next day's dinner. If you paused eating a course, waiters were ready to whip your plate away ! There was no break between courses as the next was put straight in front of you. |Dinner was also not hot, barely warm at times. It was as though it was pre-cooked, just waiting to be served...personally I think a buffet style service would have been better, even though I like to be served. |Also, yesterday there was a wedding reception at the hotel. Lovely, a few of us thought...but there was a notice stating that the restaurant wouldn't be serving dinner for the hotel guests until 8.30 and the service was only an hour. We didn't go, but hopefully no-one ended up with indigestion rushing to eat 4 courses in 60 minutes. |A previous review stated that there was a bar next door, which a few hotel guests frequented for evening drinks or snacks. We went there a few times. |We quickly found out that very little information is in any language other than Italian. Again, as a hotel with international guests, it could be difficult if you don't use Google translate !!!|The hotel is quite isolated, there's no restaurants or shops nearby. They are a 20 -30 minute walk away. A lot of the streets and pavements are cobbled and very uneven to walk. |The bar only seemed to be open in the lobby area in the evening for a few hours. There was a bar by the outside pool at the front of the hotel, but the weather wasn't always warm enough to sit outside. |There's a spa with an indoor pool, offering treatments. But the information regarding treatments was only in Italian. I usually use the spa in the hotels we've been to, but I didn't here. So can't comment. |All in all it was a pleasant experience. The island of Ischia is lovely, the people friendly and the Italian wine and beer good. We hired a scooter as its almost impossible to park a car...

My husband and I just spent a lovely week at the Hermitage Ischia. The grounds are stunning and created the perfect enivornment for a much needed 'chill' holiday. The views from our balcony and from the rooftop terrace were outstanding.

There are two pools, one down a flight of stairs with a peaceful, relaxed vibe and a pool at the bar with music and a more energetic atmosphere. We preferred the quiet pool and also enjoyed opportunities to visit the spa as part of our package.

We found the staff to be excellent and accomodating. They were always happy to offer advice and service was prompt. There seemed to be some real diva guests at the resort at the same time as us and the staff dealt with them so professionally despite their lack of manners.

The hotel has a very traditional Italian style, which I like but some may seem as outdated. The breakfast buffet was again, traditionally Italian, if you want an American breakfast , it is probably not for you. The location of the hotel is excellent, far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Ischia port but still accessible in 15 minutes by foot. The hotel also runs a free shuttle to the beach if you need it. Food at the bar os great, fair prices for what you get and you can order simple sandwiches like 'toast' which are not featured on the menu. There is also a supermarket right around the corner. Please note that whilst there is an elevator in the main building, there are lots of stairs on this property.

My suggestions for improvement would be more bathroom facilities and more regular cleaning of the current toilet at the lower pool, it was pretty disgusting by the late afternoon. Secondly, improve the wifi at the lower pool. Wifi service was great in all other parts of the hotel but I really struggled to get a connection poolside.

It was a great trip and we really enjoyed ourselves. We would definitely book this...

Italy is famous for many things. Sadly, great hotel experiences is not one of them. Like many other Italian hotels, the Hermitage feels cold, outdated and offers one of the saddest breakfast buffets I’ve ever seen. No hot food at all and very little to choose from otherwise. Decent machine-made coffee, though. The hotel is decorated by someone with zero taste and no interest in interior design. To think that this is Italy, a country overflowing with artistic talent, yet the hotel’s walls are “decorated” with really ugly, cheap plastic canvases with some kind of non-figurative, colorful kitsch. How did these get approved? Does someone actually like them? They do not feel particularly connected to the name “hermitage”. The shower was broken in our room (101) as was a tile on the floor. Big bath towels, though. The room was cold (April) but the view from the balcony was nice. The staff at the Hermitage were generally kind and helpful. Especially in the lobby bar where we had a couple of drinks. I felt kinda sorry for the staff for having to put up with all the complaints from people expecting a more sophisticated experience from a (self-proclaimed) 4 star hotel. Two and a half stars is a more apt description of the Hermitage.
