So I finally made it to the famous Poppella, ready to be swept off my feet by sugary greatness. I had dreams. Hopes. A camera roll waiting for pastry content.

The pistachio pastry? Delicious. Creamy, decadent, and honestly the only reason this review isn’t just one long sigh. If you’re a pistachio person, that one’s worth the hype.

But then came the baba… and folks, I don’t know what went wrong, but it tasted like a wet muffin that lost its will to live. Somehow soggy and dry at the same time? Like it took a swim in syrup and came out confused about its identity. In Naples—where babas are a religion—this one felt like sacrilege.

Cute place, nice staff, glad I tried it… but would I go back? Probably not. There are just too many pastry gods in this city to settle for a soggy muffin pretending to be a baba.

Final verdict: Go once, try the pistachio, and avoid the baba unless you’re into emotionally unstable...

The Pastry and the Snowflake

The traditional bread-making system underwent an initial evolution process in 1960: in fact, alongside the leavening of bread, the offer of “taralli 'nzogna e pepe” was added. With the passing of the baton from Salvatore to Ciro, the gastronomic offer is enriched with the best desserts of the Neapolitan tradition, identifying the Poppella brand as a synonym of quality and goodness. The consecration, however, took place in 2015 thanks to Ciro's intuition to create a sweet that could be good, simple and, at the same time, cheap. The laboratory then produces a white cream with a delicate consistency, based on sheep ricotta and fresh milk: the ideal filling for soft, light-tasting brioches. Thus was born the "snowflake", the cream dessert covered with icing sugar that drives all...

Just walked out of the Galleria Umberto and stumbled upon this Pasticceria by merely accident. It looked busy and we love to taste local specialties. So we got in an bought their specialty, the "Fiocco di Neve di Poppella". The "snowflake" is filled with sheep ricotta and fresh milk. What sounds simple on paper is in reality nothing short of amazing. What a divine little dessert. Be it Classic, chocolate or pistachio. Liked it so much we headed right back in to get another half dozen. Only 2 Euros a piece.

There's a line, but it's moving very quickly. And definitely worth it. A great new discovery - amazing. They also got a whole load of other desserts which we didn't try (yet). But the Fiocco is the one that everyone's coming for. Excellent and highly...

I decided to try all of them after seeing the crazy line to try these, but the staff is really really fast. and I ate the deserts in the plate and I felt great 😂 i even had two more before my flight . I got 10 fiocchi di neve with me, for my friends to try and I brought 5 of them home. I got them at 14:00 and I was home after my flight to Albania at 22:00. They can last for 10 hours without being refrigerated and three days refrigerated. I should have gotten more. After being refrigerated they tasted even better. I got just one with pistacchio but it was so good. It is worth the wait. They should have added one charging place cause with that line I lost my battery and I got what I wanted instead of communicating with my cousins to ask them what would they prefer.

We visited Pasticceria Poppella on a sunny day, looking to get a taste of the world-renowned Fiocchi di Neve. I ordered as well the Sfogliatella. I had the classic variant of the snowflake and the pistachio one and I found them to be extremely well-made! The cream and the consistency of the dough were like taking a bite of heavens. I did not really enjoy their Sfogliatella. With regards to the history of the inception of the Fiocchi di Neve, you can find a great interview on YouTube, organized by Pasquale Cannata with Ciro Poppella, the owner and the patissier behind the Fiocchi. A friendly note; do not expect much from the staff. They literally couldn’t be bothered to do more than the bare minimum that their job requires them to do.
