We’ve just returned from a week in San Candido - Hotel Orso Grigio. We were a little dubious about the resort as a skiing destination as it appeared quite limited however the town, the ski facilities and the hotel surpassed all our expectations. We could not have chosen a more perfect place to stay and ski after a 4 years gap and being a little older in years. The hotel is right in the centre of the town but only a few hundred yards from the (very reliable) ski bus. It couldn’t be more convenient. Despite being so centrally located it was very quiet at night with only the church bells to wake you up! I could easily repeat and certainly endorse all of the complements about Orso Grigio listed in previous reviews, Franz was the perfect host and his team of staff were exemplary. The housekeeping was second to none and they hunted out the softest pillows for me (thank you). There was always the warmest of welcome from Sabrina and Sophie on reception who would organise anything we needed from investigating snow-shoeing options to suggesting suitable shops to purchase gifts for our granddaughter :) The restaurant staff were highly professional, anticipating our needs and we really enjoyed their company as well as their skill. Thank you. I loved the fact the whole town was given over to Italian and Austrian traditions and language. Being Welsh we really valued a culture that did not revolve around everyone speaking English. It felt like a real holiday abroad. Once again many thanks to Franz and the team, Yours Debbie and...
Read morePerfectly located in the center of town, have their own parking spots behind the hotel. Generous sized rooms, excellent bathrooms. The hotel has an elevator in case stairs are an issue. Breakfast is also excellent, generous buffet style with eggs made to order. Friendly staff, efficient service. Great outside area for aperitivo, snacks and people watching. There are some things to note, we stayed there in May, and to our disappointment the restaurant was closed for the in-between season. This was not clear when looking at their website, as well as the booking form is still asking for dietary restrictions/dislikes while booking. The other thing is that the rooms don’t have air conditioning, it was slightly warm during our stay, easily fixed by opening the windows. Our room was facing the main square, it got quite noisy with the open windows at 6-7ish with delivery vans, cafes setting up…. So if you like to sleep-in a room facing away from the main square might be the better choice. Owner was very helpful and knowledgeable when helping planning hiking tours, it was a...
Read moreThe convenience is obvious, you are in the center of San Candido, an elegant resort in Val Venosta with shops, restaurants and sport equipment venues of all sorts. The rooms are comfortable, nice large bathrooms and modern wood paneling makes for a cosy and neat space. The restaurant is the best part of the experience if you decide to opt for the half board: every evening three different menus, vast well sorted salads and cheese buffet, service discrete but never stiff, dishes are creative, beautifully presented and VERY good. The owner even organised a wine tasting for the guests. Value is also an attribute I would choose here because you have free steam bath and sauna, absolute silence and fast free internet, plus a snow shoes all day event with a professional guide. So everything was perfect ? Almost, the only minor observation: the charger for our Tesla was capable of working with 22 KW but was limited at 4, meaning longer charging times. No biggie. Great experience,...
