My husband and I stayed at La Toretta for two nights on our honeymoon. This was the most expensive hotel we stayed at (a splurge for us, for sure) but it was highly recommended so we went for it. The views from the hotel are stunning. If you are going to spend a lot of time at the hotel, then it's probably worth it. We spent very little time there so it wasn't worth the splurge. ||||The room itself was fine except that the air conditioning was broken and we were in the throes of a heat wave. Initially the staff was not particularly responsive to the issue but one day two (of our two day stay), they did acknowledge that it was broken. Unfortunately, it was the weekend so a repair was not possible. The staff added a portable air conditioner to the room which was a nice gesture but unfortunately it just turned the room into a humid mess. After one night with that portable unit, our clothes smelled musty.||||Our experience with the staff was hit or miss. The early staff was the most friendly and responsive. By the afternoon, the staff turns over to indifference. Our first afternoon, after informing the front desk about the air conditioner, we asked for help choosing a restaurant and the response was basically that we wouldn't be able to get a reservation anywhere so we should just pick a place. So...not particularly helpful. The next morning, we asked again at the front desk and they were much more helpful in identifying restaurants and even got us a coveted reservation at Trattoria dal Billy. So ask your questions in the morning! ||||Ultimately it was a disappointing experience considering how much money we spent to stay there. To be clear, it's not a bad hotel by any stretch of the imagination but if we had it to do over again, we would have stayed somewhere...
Read moreWe really liked the hotel and had a very nice visit. The room was large with a comfortable bed, nice living room, good WiFi, clean bathroom and good water pressure in the shower (less so in the bathtub). The stairs up and down to the bathroom and to the bedroom were quite steep and shallow. The two issues we had with the room were 1) there were a lot of mosquitos - got really bit up at night and 2) the patio sitting area was not right off the room but outside down about 10 steep steps - from the website pictures I did not get that impression. The service was very good starting with the porter who helped us with our bags and parking as well as helping with breakfast. The breakfast was quite good - loved the eggs and the almond croissant. And the location is fabulous - great views, easy to access the hikes, train station without a lot of noise. If they would ensure the rooms had no mosquitos I would have given...
Read moreThis is a gem of a place and for the first time since writing reviews I wish I could give a 6 star rating instead of 5, because it is really that good! We are staying in Giulia villa and I highly recommend you book this villa if you can. It is so beautiful and authentic and modern and traditional, all at the same time! Free fridge full of soft drinks and wine! Cappuccino machine and fruit and drinks offered on arrival. But what takes the cake is the amazing service the wonderful staff are providing. Huge smiles, warm hearts, genuinely welcoming. All of the staff are amazing but I would like to single out Paola and Patricia at reception for helping us with anything we needed, like restaurant reservations and even booking a manicure/pedicure appointment for us! If you go to this beautiful part of the world make sure you stay...
