We arrived at the end of August and were in the area to do three days of day hikes in the Alpe di Siusi area. My review is based on being in the area in summer as conditions and bus connections may be different in other seasons. The hotel is located in Compatsch, Italy among of group of other hotels at the upper end of the cable car cableway that runs up from Siusi. There are numerous well-signed trails leading out from Compatsch. There is also a frequent bus to Saltria at the far end of Alpe di Siusi from Compatsch and also bus service to Castelrotto down near the lower terminus of the cable cars. We were traveling without a car and had no problem walking to the hotel that was a 5-minute walk from the cable car station. Since neither of us spoke Italian or German an apprehension of our stay at the hotel was how well we could communicate with the staff that mainly do not speak English. We booked about 4 months in advance by email. To make the reservations I used the “Google Translate” service on the web to use the correct wording to send my reservation request in Italian and to translate the response. When we arrived at the hotel, check-in went well using some rehearsed Italian and we were asked to select our entrees for dinner (from a choice of three) and dessert since the hotel was providing our breakfast and dinner. It was a little confusing choosing since we did not recognize the choices, which were only listed in Italian, and German but we were able to make a choice. Each day we were given new selections to choose from. Our room was very nice; good sized with fair sized bath and small shower, adequate closet space, TV and free wifi. It had a very nice closed balcony sitting area with a view of the Sciliar peaks. It was very quiet, partly because cars are generally banned from Compatsch except for arriving and departing. We were assigned a 7:30 seating for dinner in the hotel restaurant. Dinner was served in courses with buffet for salad and vegetable/potato dishes. Wine, beer and bottled water were available for extra charge. Overall the food was very good. Breakfast was buffet style with various styles of coffee from a machine and choices of cereals, fruits, breads, eggs and bacon, all quite good. The room was cleaned daily. Overall it was a good choice of hotel for us and excellent value. We would stay...

Read moreMy husband and I stayed for one night the first Saturday in September. We rented a car in Innsbruck for the 2 + hour drive to stay in the Dolomites. The drive up to Alpe di Siusi from the A12 Highway was a winding mountain road with a sensational view. When we arrived we were greeted with a festival set up across the street. There was food and various items for sale, as well as a band from Slovenia playing and singing polka music on stage. Staying at this hotel is wonderful! THIS IS WHERE IT'S AT! All of the hiking trails, funiculars and buses to farther distance funiculars is right at your hotel with free parking. Even with a car, it is necessary to take a bus to Saltria to catch the Florian lift to a fabulous location. There is no place to park your car there. This is a national park. A lot of people staying elsewhere are faced with limited parking in a small lot across the street at 18 euro, or limited parking at the foot of the mountain to take the Seis-Seiser Alm Bahn here. This hotel has 5 star service & location! Patricia worked hard to see that guests were happy. The rate was fabulous which included breakfast with scrambled eggs, ham, cheese, cereal, danish, breads, etc. This also included half board, a bountiful dinner for all guests at 7:30 PM. There were 3 choices for appetizer, entrees & dessert when you checked in. There was also a salad & vegetable buffet before the meal. Drinks were extra, including coffee, sodas, beer & wine. The hotel is clean and has an elevator. We had a room on the front with a lovely view, with comfortable bed & pillows. Breakfast started at 7:30 AM.||I would highly recommend this hotel and would love to come...
