Stayed here during a Shearings holiday to Lake Como.|Our room overlooking the lake had a lovely view from a balcony that was furnished with a table and two chairs. There was no double glazing but noise from the restaurant below died out at nighttime. There was some road noise too but that also faded out at night. However, noise from traffic and deliveries did start again very early, sometimes around 4 or 5.|The room was a decent size for two adults. A mini fridge and free water was included but although there was a TV it didn’t have any UK channels – despite a leaflet saying that it did. The aircon was very effective at cooling the room down. The wifi worked but could be slow at busy times. Pillows were thin but the bed was comfortable. |The bathroom however was old and shabby. The shower was over the bath. The pressure was very weak and the floor was extremely slippery. You will need to ask for a bath mat asap because everybody needs one and they run out quickly. The cramped space and low shower head means that you will have to crouch down to shower if you are over 5’9”. There is one skinny shelf for toiletries and a bidet that unnecessarily takes up space. It was difficult to shave because of the low position of the shelf and the fact that the plug didn’t fit the sink, allowing the water to run away. I had to have the tap constantly running. Towels are unnecessarily changed every day.|The dining room has seating inside and out. The dining system is convoluted and contradictory. We were told it was a buffet and we should serve ourselves but it turned out that the small self-service buffet at the entrance to the dining room is limited to appetizers/antipasti, ie cold pasta, rice and cold cuts. The main (ie the hot food) is waiter served. This wasn’t made clear from the outset and so we incurred the wrath of the staff by entering a forbidden area of the room to get hot food, thinking that’s what we were supposed to do. Perversely, this zone is also where other cold salad items such as lettuce and tomatoes reside that guests are allowed to select. The lack of logic extends to breakfast, when you must enter the forbidden zone to order freshly made omelettes. At breakfast, too, you will find the butter in the fruit section, nowhere near the bread, the toaster and the jam. All very strange.|There is a terrace overlooking the lake where pizza is served. The view is wonderful. You need to order your pizza in the morning at reception. We did this once. The pizzas were thin and the quality was so-so. The hotel food – especially classic Italian fare such as pizza, pasta and gnocchi - was generally not very good and choice was limited. This is surprising for an Italian eatery. I don’t know if that’s because they are running a tight budget or because few actual Italians seem to work there. The bottom line is, if meals aren’t included in your package you might want to eat out locally.|Service at dinner is disorganised. Sometimes we were left for ages without being served or offered a drink. Other times, two or more waiters would try to take our orders. No-one seems to be in charge and there is no real system in place.|We skipped breakfast. It really only caters for those who want to start their day with cakes, salami and bits of frankfurter. The orange juice was just plain horrible.|The bar area is large and there is also seating outside. The all-inclusive options are limited but perfectly satisfactory for most people’s needs. We noticed that bar snacks such as crisps and olives tended to be lavished only on the guests who were not part of the all-inclusive package.|Generally, the staff were hard working, pleasant and helpful (if slightly disorganised). However, one or two were a little surly.|Situated half way up the lake, the Bazzoni is a useful base from which to explore the area. It’s easy to travel across the lake from nearby ferry stops, and to get into Como town on the bus. However, although the hotel serves its purpose as a base camp, it is no better than its three...
Read moreScruffy mismanaged hotel with some good points and lots of worthy criticism. To get it out of the way excellent position the rooms were sort of clean(don't look under bed) and towels changed daily the beds were comfortable and the views of the lake from our first floor terrace room were fabulous - oh and the bar area was quite pleasant but noisy at night with rubbish entertainment unfortunately directly underneath our room. Otherwise I have long list of criticisms which really undermine what could be a really good mid price hotel||It's all a bit faulty towers with cobwebs and broken light fittings disorganised at meal times random food counters with basic low quality food nobody is managing the hotel to any kind if acceptable standard things fall off or don't work and nobody on the management side quite gets it - completely lost sight of how obviously rubbish the presentation is so doing what they always do with same rubbish result. Gordon Ramsey would have a field day. ||Trying to shower standing in a slippery curvy bath and shower head below my shoulder was positively dangerous would not be allowed in UK - somebody will slip and fall it's inevitable - no sensible screen so water all over the bathroom the doors that were supposed to screen were hanging off. So I sat down in the bath to see if I could control the spray but then found I couldn't get out of the deep curvy bathtub with wet slippery hands - no flat surface or grab rail to help me. Trust me there is a serious accident waiting to happen. If not the shower it will be someone cutting their forehead on the glass shelf shelf which is cleverly positioned above the wash basin so you cannot lift water from the basin to your face and so on first use banging your head on the edge of the transparent shelf is inevitable. After a few days practice you can learn to twist and contort to mitigate these dangers but always with water all over the floor good job towels get changed daily.||Air conditioning basic split unit cold enough but freezing draft directly onto the bed very uncomfortable. Noisy room but to be expected. ||Restaurant was feeding time at the zoo or school dinners choose your metaphor. So random so bland - food and ambience - just not what you should get from a budget hotel in Europe. Read the other Low star reviews below all true I won't repeat (dont understand the 5 star reviewers they need to get out more) ||The fine dining restaurant M62 or something was a possible good alternative to the school dinners upstairs but turned out to be a bit bizarre. It felt like the chef has been watching masterchef and fancied a go at haut cuisine without really having ever done it before. So in short nice environment pity about the food. Carrot osobuko caused a lot of merriment at our table it was effectively half a carrot cut end ways with a bit of something smeared down the middle - looked like a carrot tasted like a carrot was a carrot not quite sure where the osobuko connection was but very typical of many courses odd and not particularly haut, beef slab (8 euros extra) was quite nice slab overcooked on one side with one large chip. So we tried twice knowing what was OK but didn't go back preferring average pizza with a view and school dinners with a view once we found the outside terrace and jug of house red marvelling at the lake and mountains but personally I couldn't take my eyes off the lantern light fitting hanging off it's mount and covered in cobwebs - hadn't seen attention for years. So lake Como is beautiful and we had a good week spent all our time in the hotel moaning about it or laughing about it in equal parts. ||Such a great spot and could be really good three star but someone in the hotel needs to have a hard fresh look at what they do day after day and make significant changes to front of house operations then the five star reviews below would make...
Read moreWhere to start with our week long stay at the Hotel Bazzoni? Lets start with the good of which there was some things to like! Location! In terms of Tremezzo, it does not get much better! Right on the lake, close to transport links, good few restaurants close by. The hotel has a lot of Sri Lankan restaurant staff, who I have to say were absolutely brilliant. Really friendly and good at their jobs. They are an absolute credit to the hotel as was the cleaning lady, she was brilliant!|The bad....as good as the waitors are, the food at dinner is absolutely diabolical. If you are going here expecting to eat authentic Italian food, think again. Dinner menu is almost exclusively catered for British and Irish OAPs. Bland boiled veg with a bland meat or fish, nothing seasoned and almost everything over or undercooked. The antipasti is exactly the same options every night. The breakfast is basic but decent. The pizza option upstairs is like eating a budget £1 pizza from Lidl or Iceland.|The ugly.... where to start with our allocated room 418.....god help you if you are allocated this room. I booked this trip through a travel agent, I wasn't aware or told at time of booking there was multiple room types. My advice DO NOT book a standard room at this hotel unless you are on a strict budget! Make sure to book a room with a balcony. Our room was not much bigger than a prison cell. The view from the window was the fire escape stairs, it was one of only 2 rooms I could see with single glazing so during the thunderstorms at night it felt like a bomb was going off in your room. The shower cubicle was clearly designed for children it was that small. They give you a book in the room outlining features of room and hotel. They advertise 2 types of aircon controls and how to change temperature but thats not what you get in room 418 or any standard room. You get a centrally controlled unit which you cant change the temperature on and seemed to blow out cold air in daytime and hot air at night which made sleeping very uncomfortable.|We tried to change room and offered to pay for a different catagory but were told hotel was full. |We were on a tour group with 17 other people and the feedback was similar. Standard rooms awful and too hot, balcony rooms decent!|I am not that fussy when it comes to rooms but when you consider most Premier Inns in the UK are 3 star then Bazzoni standard rooms are a 1 star by UK standards. A Premier Inn looks like the Ritz compared to this place! In a 3 star abroad you expect a decent shower and an AC unit you can control as a bare minimum. |The other thing to be mindful of when booking this hotel is the age demographic staying here. We are both in our 40s but the hotel was almost exclusively over 60s so if you are expecting a lively vibe this may not be the hotel for you!|This hotel with some investment to modernise the rooms and elevating the dining experience could easily be amazing due to its location and its staff but I feel they know it will sell regardless as there is not that many 3 star options...
