There is no doubt that the location and room decor are excellent, and the rooftop breakfast area is very pleasant. The problems start with dealing with the car. We were advised to park fifteen minutes away by the rail station. In other towns where the hotel is in a limited entry area the hotel arranges with the police so that you are not ticketed for entry, and they help with parking your car where it is legal (and free). Not so here. Then, when you arrive you have to get your bags up to the top of the building (to be honest we found a porter who took them up). There was no one at reception, but the same porter made a phone call and someone eventually arrived to welcome us. It turned out that the receptionist had quit and had not been replaced, and a very kind lady from the sister hotel (Villa Antica) had to come each morning to serve breakfast . There was a telephone number for emergencies. We tried that but no-one answered and no-one replied to a message. There was no information (such as a town map) at the reception area. A note in our room said to contact reception for internet details :). It turned out that there was no internet! Apart from all of this our room was pleasant and overlooked the cathedral roof. It was quiet apart from the church...
Read moreMy wife & I stayed for five nights towards the end of July in Residenza Il Duomo. Our room was very large & had en suite facilities. The en suite consisted of a shower but not a bath which was not a problem for us as we prefer such an arrangement. The room was fully air-conditioned. The hotel has very good wifi. Because the room is at the top of the building it lacks a view. Breakfast is taken on the roof top terrace which has splendid views of the surrounding area. The staff were very friendly & helpful. There are two potential problems for visitors: 1) Reception is not manned at night, though there is a number you can ring should need help; 2 )As the hotel is at the top half of the building, it is accessible via steep stairs which cover 3 or four sets. There is no lift & therefore you need to be fit enough to carry your luggage. Even without luggage, you can have difficulties! The hotel should at least provide assistance for...
Read moreGreat town centre location opposite the Cathedral. Close to bars, restaurants and short walk to the beaches.Room was very spacious and everything you need was available. Breakfast was a bonus and was lovely sitting on the roof terrace. The downside was the 50 steps (no lifts) to get to the hotel as its on the second and third floor of the building. The other big problem was the noise of the nightclub / disco which is about 300m from hotel. It was on every night we were there from 11pm - 3am, if you do not pack earplugs to keep out noise you will not be sleeping. This is not the fault of the hotel and they cannot do anything to stop it, visitors just need to be aware this hotel is extremely noisy at night, it makes the Church bells in the morning seem quiet ! We did enjoy our stay as the location is so good but if you do not like loud disco music and lots of steps then...
