My family and I recently dined at a local restaurant, hoping for a pleasant evening out. Unfortunately, our visit was marred by a series of unfortunate incidents that left us disheartened and frustrated.
Upon arrival, we were excited to enjoy a meal together, spanning three generations – my parents in their 70s, my wife, our children, and our baby. Our initial encounter with the staff, however, set the tone for the rest of the evening. We attempted to order drinks but were told we had to place our entire order, food and drinks, simultaneously. When we inquired about having a drink while deciding on our food, a waiter rudely walked away mid-conversation. Thankfully, another waiter came to our rescue, apologizing for his colleague's behavior.
Throughout our meal, we couldn't help but notice the owner's visible stress, as he spoke to his staff badly and constantly stared in our direction. This added to our discomfort, and we tried our best to ignore the situation and enjoy our time together. We even observed a group of people eagerly waiting for our table, indicating a clear double booking issue.
Our experience took a downturn when our food was served out of order – main courses before starters. When we requested the starters first, the response we received was far from accommodating. The staff seemed more interested in passing the blame onto us rather than addressing their own mistake. This kind of treatment left us feeling embarrassed and unwelcome.
To make matters worse, the starters that eventually arrived seemed rushed, as if they were quickly taken from another plate. The quality was subpar – dry and cold to the touch. At one point, a server even prodded my wife aggressively, instructing her to remain seated. My frustration escalated, and I had to intervene, expressing our dissatisfaction with their behavior and we got up and left without eating.
We were shocked to find that we were being charged for the food we had not even received. The situation escalated further when the threat of involving the police was made if we refused to pay for the unordered items. The entire ordeal felt absurd and left us bewildered.
In reflection, the business owner was greedy trying to rush tables through expecting families of 8 to eat and leave quickly. The lack of professionalism displayed by the staff and the owner's stress negatively impacted what should have been a pleasant family dinner. Our attempts to remain patient and calm were met with disregard, and the overall encounter left us frustrated and angry. We hope that sharing our experience will help others make informed decisions about dining at this...

Arrived to a busy restaurant, approached by what seemed like the owner. Tried to communicate with our best Italian as polite as possible. It was as though as soon as he realised we were not Italian his demeanour changed.
Shown to a seat inside in a corner to a table that wasn't made. Sat down and abandoned for 15 minutes, without an offer of a drink, or even given menus. We eventually had to walk over and get our own.
Eventually drinks were ordered, along with our food. No bread basket, despite every other table having theirs actively replenished.
Then the hour wait began. Others were brought in, seated, and food delivered, whilst we waited. Our meal wasn't particularly complex, just two pizzas.
Eventually the food arrived. The pizza was as difficult to cut through as it was to get a waiter's attention in the first place. Pizza was nothing special.
Disappointed, we asked for the bill. Reasonably priced (barely), besides the service charge, funny really since we hardly saw any service. Left to one or two cold goodbyes, most of the staff sitting at the bar on their phones.
We were extremely patient with this restaurant, and tried our absolute hardest not to be disappointed by it, but it was unavoidable. We've been in Tropea for a week now and were surprised that such good service from elsewhere (mostly on the main streets) could give way to such awful places in the...
Read moreIf you go for food this place is amazing.. if you love fresh and raw fish you can be sure that this is one of the best. 5 star is for the food, the service deserves less than zero. They are rude arrogant and have a very bad attitude, as if your presence is unwanted. Although things have to be put into context, foreigners cannot expect tropea to be like London Paris or Tokyo.. it is very authentic with a very old fashion southern Italian attitude coming from a very old and intricate history. Not everyone wants to evolve and fit in a more.modern world. So if you look for something more touristic where food is the same as every chain and everything is standardised avoid going to these kind of places ....if you look for something real tropea is top. Go there eat the food laugh and the goliardic behaviour and just ignore them and don't...
