The room we had at Hotel Ca'D'Oro was extremely beautiful. We checked in on April 7 and checked out April 9. The bed was firm but comfortable enough to get a decent night's sleep. The channels on the TV had a few in English, so that was a plus. The shower door didn't do a good enough job of keeping the water from leaking. After a shower, the water would leak as far as the toilet. We had to keep setting out towels to dry all the water. The outlet in the shower has a built in converter that let's you use an American style wall plug, but only supports small things such as shavers. Don't plug your curling iron or straightener into the outlet, it wont work and you run the risk of ruining your equipment.
Our room was secluded from the rest of the hotel and rooms on ground floor. It was nice having the privacy, but there were no views from our room, just an alleyway and a view of the hotel's front entrance lobby. I had to take off 1 star due to not being able to use WiFi. Our room must have been made out of lead because we couldn't get any phone service or wifi from our room. We had to go to one of the windows and press our phones against it to even get a wifi or phone signal. When we spoke with someone at the front desk, they explained they were having trouble with the WiFi, so I'm not sure if this played into our connection issues.
The Hotel is within walking distance of many great sightseeing locations. The Rialto bridge was about a 10 minute walk. There are plenty of nearby shops and restaurants.
For breakfast, they had sweetbreads, hard boiled eggs, cereal, fruits, normal bread that you could toast in the toaster, but no scrambled eggs. They had a coffee machine that made amazing cappuccinos.
Overall staff was very friendly, but I took off 1 star due to not being able to use wifi or have any service in our room and because the water would lead across the bathroom...
Read moreReading through other people's reviews it seems like some really liked staying here, I guess these things depend a lot on people's expectations and each individual experience at the place. However, if you're considering a stay here, I would suggest looking elsewhere; personally, I would never go back/wish I had never went at all. What I can say as objectively as I can from our (me and my mom's) experience, is this: Location is fine. Some rooms have canal views. Most of the staff were kind-- --except one, we had several incidents with him that were very unpleasant and no one apologized on behalf of the hotel. Long story short, he yelled at my mom in the lobby, insulted our country and all other citizens of our country by saying we must not even receive any education (?), he yelled at her again in the hallway and then came with towels which he basically just threw inside our room -while yelling and being ironic. Simply put, he was consistently rude, unreasonable and aggressive; evidently with no customer service training. Therefore, I would avoid staying here, because as much as he might decide to be nice to some guests, he might also decide to lash out and ruin your vacation. Breakfast is very low quality for the price (opinion of a vegetarian/lactose intolerant) if you eat meat if might be better, but still, not even a proper variety of fruits, things that are not super sugary or good coffee, etc. Our bathroom smelled of sewage, no action taken by the staff when mentioned. Shower is also pretty small and a bit moldy. Our room just smelled old and dusty, didn't...
Read moreI don't know how this hotel compares to others in Venice. However, we had a fab stay. We booked a Junior Suite for 3 of us (2 adults and a child). The view from the suite windows was exactly as you'd imagine Venice to be... right out over a corner of the canal. Gorgeous. But, for 3 of us it was a little cramped.
Decor was lovely. Sockets were not convenient though, even though we took an extension cable. Layout of room was awkward for 3 people but doable. That's why I marked the room down. Nevertheless, the vibe was exactly what we wanted and I would thoroughly recommend.
And the little roof terrace was just lovely. We took a bottle of fizz up there and some cake for one of our parties birthday.
Staff were lovely.
Breakfast was basic but was topped up and the lady looking after breakfast was friendly and working non stop to keep the visits topped up.
On the last night we had to swap in to a "triple". The view was still good, but not as good. The decor was OK but not as nice as the suite. But for 3 people, that's definitely what I would recommend.
Our trip was cancelled twice due to covid. All the way through the the 2 years of rearranging and more rearranging, Reception could not have been more helpful and friendly with accommodating us at a later date during difficult times.
In summary, fab service, great location, relatively good value for the accommodation provided. Just do some research on the rooms if you're a family. Would def go back.
Thanks...
