I cannot stress enough how horrible our experience was at Vecia Cavana. While the food was passable (nothing special, but not bad), the service was absolutely appalling and completely ruined our evening.
Let me start with the waiter. Besides being ridiculously pushy and constantly upselling us on everything, he was incredibly inappropriate. At one point, he decided to tell my husband, “I’m Egyptian, I’ve had four wives, I’ve been married four times.” First of all, what kind of inappropriate flex is that? Second, as my husband’s wife, I found this deeply disrespectful. I’m not an object, and bragging about treating women like disposable commodities is disgusting. Honestly, if you’ve been through four wives, maybe the problem is you. Shame on you.
It didn’t stop there. I have a dietary restriction and cannot eat starch. Usually, this is not an issue at restaurants because I’m very clear about it and work with the staff to navigate the menu. But this waiter? He made zero effort to help. Instead, he repeatedly suggested dishes that clearly contained starch, brushed off my concerns, and was outright rude about it. Navigating a dietary restriction is already challenging, and he made it unnecessarily difficult and unpleasant.
Eventually, the head waiter stepped in and instructed him to make me a sabayon for dessert (starch free). The waiter was clearly annoyed about it and then turned it into an over-the-top performance, treating us like clueless tourists. They served two enormous portions when I only ordered one, then repeatedly pushed my husband to eat, despite him declining. When he refused, they insisted I finish both plates. Completely inappropriate and invasive.
To top it off, the head waiter handed us the check and said the bill didn’t include the waiter’s tip, pressuring us to leave one. As Europeans, we know that’s not standard, and after such terrible service, they didn’t deserve a cent. They also overcharged us for the fish of the day and the dessert. 20euro dessert.
Overall, the service was condescending, disrespectful, and made us feel like we were being taken advantage of. Avoid this restaurant—The food is average, and the service is atrocious. This was one of the worst dining experiences...
Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Oh, Ristorante Vecia Cavana, you’ve stolen my heart and my taste buds in a way I never saw coming!
Tucked away near Campo Santi Apostoli, this gem isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a love letter to Venice, served on a plate with a side of soul-stirring ambiance.
From the moment I stepped into this beautifully restored cavàna (yes, I learned that’s a fancy Venetian boathouse, thank you very much), I was smitten. The exposed brick arches and mooring hooks whispered tales of gondoliers past, wrapping me in a warm, nostalgic hug that said, “You’re home, even if you’re just visiting.”
The food? Oh, dear reader, prepare for a culinary romance. The gnocchi with zucchini and shrimp was like a first kiss—soft, surprising, and utterly unforgettable. Each bite of their Venetian specialties felt like a page torn from a 16th-century cookbook, reimagined with a wink and a flourish by chefs who clearly have poetry in their souls.
And let’s talk about the wine list—curated with such care, it’s like they bottled the rolling hills of Friuli just for me. Pairing my meal with a crisp Friulian vintage was the kind of decision that makes you want to write sonnets.
But what truly brought tears to my eyes (and not just from the joy of eating) was the service( and accept my full praise for Mr. Cristian)
The staff at Vecia Cavana don’t just serve you; they adopt you into their Venetian family. They glided through the dining room with warmth and wit, making sure every moment sparkled like the canals at sunset. When I spilled a bit of sauce (because, of course, I got too excited), they didn’t just clean it up—they turned it into a charming anecdote, leaving me laughing instead of blushing.
This wasn’t just a meal; it was a journey through Venice’s heart, served with a side of magic.
Vecia Cavana, you’ve left me with a full belly, a fuller heart, and a desperate need to return.
To anyone reading this: don’t just eat here—let this place wrap you in its Venetian embrace. You’ll leave a little more in...
Read moreOur first day in Venice, after roaming and bar hopping a few places, we decided to have dinner at a historic restaurant; Ristorante A La Vecia Cavana, Venice was a delightful experience for us. This historic establishment, open since 1912. Impressive decor and immaculately clean facility. We arrived at the restaurant and the was warmly greeted by our host who was very friendly and pleasant. He showed us to a table which was small & setting the tone for a truly enjoyable evening. We began our culinary adventure with two classic Bellinis and a simple yet satisfying offering of breadsticks with butter. For appetizers, we ordered a diverse selection from the menu, a mixed fried fish with fried vegetables platter, & heart of artichoke with mozzarella and truffles, and a refreshing spider crab salad. Our wine journey commenced with a bottle of Amarone Valpantena, a perfect companion to our starters. The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the two plates of their seafood risotto. It was amazing and instantly became our instant favorite, a dish we'll long remember. At the host's excellent recommendation, we also savored a half bottle of Amarone Classico, which perfectly complemented the rich flavors of the risotto. We wrapped our evening with Our host recommended shots of limoncello and a few delightful house-made meringues. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our visit and left feeling super satisfied. Ristorante A La Vecia Cavana has undoubtedly become my forever favorite from my entire Italy trip. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone...
