Now, it makes sense why they force gratuity. Arrived at 7:40. We were seated quickly with no menus, no offer for drinks or water. We waited 15 mins, then my wife had to get up and go around to the front and ask for menus. 15 minutes after that, a woman came (who we never saw again), and we ordered water and fried calamari. 10 minutes later, she took our order. By 8:30, no bread was offered, and no one came by to check on us. Finally, at 8:45, our meals showed up. We had to ask for bread. The bread was sliced and stale, we could hardly bite it. I got the spaghetti with clam sauce with the smallest clams I had ever seen. The spaghetti was undercooked. 30 minutes go by, and after having to remove the pinky nail sized clam meat from the clam, I realized, "we never got the fried calamari." I then taped my wine glass and said loudly, "I have an announcement to make! I want to get the he'll out of here!". Then we waited and waited and waited. Finally, a guy came by and offered coffee or dessert. I laughed and said, "No, we'll take the check. Also, like i said before. we never saw the original...
Read moreAuthentic and family owned restaurant in Venice. Fresh fish cooked to perfection. Excellent wine atvdecent prices. The atmosphere is warm and genuine. The place was recommended by one of the fishmongers who actually told us why there is (almost) no local fish at the market stalls and where can we find it. Yes, if you go to the market, 90% of the fish and seafood is imported and defrosted. The scarce local fish is directly sent to the restaurants since they represent a constant customer that buy larger quantities than regular customers. And this is one of the restaurants in Venice that gets the fresh, local and seasonal fish. Ask questions and you will be gently guided througj what is in season. Of the restaurants that we ate at during the one week that we spent in Venice, this one is one of my top 3. We had small wild caught eel, frito misto and a superb small shrimp with young seasonal raw artichokes, as well as small soft blue crabs...
Read moreEvery year, we fly to Italy from NZ. We always make one additional stop to Venice just to come dine here. By far, the hidden gem of venice. Don't be offended if the owner makes you read the menu before you sit. Because these guys make REAL italian food, not interpretation of italian food that I find in NZ. Everything on their menu is delicious, and I hope no matter how popular these guys get, I hope they continue to remain true to the art of italian cuisine and keep authentic Italy alive. 🥰 Note that if you do not like seafood, then this restaurant is not for you. If you want to taste the true Italy, wait to be served, and don't be so precious that you need to be seated straight away. We waited 20 minutes our first time there, and we were simply going by the italian reviews, and it was...
