The only thing 4* about this hotel is the lobby, the rooms were a different experience.||The rooms in comparison to the lobby were terribly outdated. Chairs are worn, the walls were badly marked and entire sections of paint was missing all together. ||Although the rooms did have a fulled stocked mini fridge and a TV that allowed access to YouTube, Netflix, Disney plus etc, basic amenities such as plug sockets and air conditioning were lacking. In the room, there was only 2 free plug sockets, one in the bathroom and one under the tv which made charging phones overnight very awkward. My partner and I had to charge portable chargers all day, and use them to charge our phones overnight because of the lack of plugs near the beds. The air conditioning just didn’t work all together, but thankfully it was very hot when we where there (March 30th-April 3rd), although if it was hot and summer, this is not ideal. ||The beds were atrocious and sleep was terrible. If my partner and I weren’t exhausted from walking all day every day, I doubt we would have been able to fall asleep. The beds where rock solid, no give in then whatsoever. If you had entered the room after a long day of travel and jumped onto the bed finally happy to relax, you would’ve been met with pain instead of comfort. The pillows were also extremely had and flat, no comfort whatsoever. My partner and I had to resort to using our airport neck pillows to gain any sort of comfort while we slept. ||The toilets also often had a kind of back wash of sediment in them that was brown in colour. As often after a long day of walking, once we would return to our rooms, the bottom of the toilets would be slightly brown even though they hadn’t been used all day and where not like that when we left. ||We also had a slight issue with privacy. My partner and I when away often choose to keep our “do not disturb” sign on our door for personal reasons. However one day after scoping out the city we came back to the hotel and the sign was off our door handle and hung up on the coat hook in our room, and a cleaner had been in. Now I know this is not that bad or extreme, but I think it is important for a customer that if they have a “do not disturb” sign up, that you respect that. It just felt really weird that it was ignored.||An additional unpleasantry was that everyday when you came out of the elevator into the lobby you were met by a very strong, vile sewage smell. Being from a city myself, I know this often happens when it is very warm, however it was no more than 17 degrees celsius.||The key benefit of this hotel was that right across the street was the train station Venice Mestre. Read moreMixed review about this place but on the whole fairly disappointed.
The lobby and facade of the building is a glimmer of luxury in an otherwise less salubrious part of town. The reception staff are helpful and speak English as well. But beyond that initial portal into the hotel, the rest is less inviting. The room was in need of some repairs - the basin faucet was not secure in its attachment, the bathtub plug didn't fit well and the chain broken and the wardrobe doors didn't shut well. But worse of all was that initial mild stench of sewerage which I can only assume is coming from the poorly plumbed room. It's not so overpowering that you can't stay in the room and you do go 'nose blind' after a while but each time you reenter the room it does hit you.
The breakfast hall was modern and clean. The selection was simple and .....boring. You can never expect European hotels to match the standard of UK hotels when it comes to bacon and sausages - the clump of greasy badly cooked bacon and questionable meat sausages were a typical example. Be careful of the coffee machines too....I think the one on the left seems to do instant coffee whereas the one on the right uses beans. At least there is a selection of fresh fruit.
The location is right in front of Mestre train station, and near plenty of bus stops. As such, travelling in from the airport is very easy - less than 5 minute walk from the coach stop. The frustrating part however is accessing Venice - the number 2 bus which is fairly conveniently located in front of the hotel is super jammed packed on way into and back out of Venice. At points, you can't get on the bus it is so full. A little tip is to turn right and go up Via PIave and get the bus from Piave Podgora - its about a 5 minute walk but you have more chance of getting on the bus. The tram option doesn't take you into Venice and you have to take 2 trams in to Venice. The train maybe an option if you have the correct ticket (the 48h pass doesn't seem to cover trains whereas 24h one does).
In summary, OK but not somewhere I...
