I stayed for 5 nights in Candeo in a Superior Twin Room (18 sqm) and it was a very comfortable stay. It is more than enough for a single guest and barely enough for 2 guests.
Pros: Open sky hot pool. (It is hot water, not onsen water) It is average in size, able to accommodate 10 bathers without feeling too crowded. Bed is comfortable, not too hard like typical Japanese business hotel. Room humidifier is available. it is very helpful because air was very dry. (RH was only 20%) Situated at the heart of Tienjin, where you can find everything you may need. Window can be open for natural ventilation. Many windows in Japanese hotels cannot be opened. It was 14 deg cel, no need to in-room A/C.
Cons: Even with 18 sqm room, it is not big enough to have 2 luggage boxes left open. Wardrobe is no big enough. It is just 2 horizontal bars affixed on the wall. No in-room safe. Room cleaning is only until 12.30 pm. I stayed in many hotels before. This is still the first with such policy. Sound-proofing is average. Can hear noises from the corridor.
Suggestions for the hotel's management: Ceiling is high. make use of the vertical space to build more storage (i.e. wardrobe, cabinet, cupboards) so that guests can take out everything from their luggage and tuck it away to provide more floor space. Water kettle is too big and very space-consuming. Just use a smaller kettle with simple...
Read moreI wanted to have a good stay but unfortunately that was a nightmare of an experience.
We had to change rooms twice because the first room they gave us had a terrible smell to it. They offered us a room on a lower floor that did not have such a strong smell however it was so noisy as it was further down. The rooms don’t have great sound proofing it appears. Then they gave us a room on the 7th floor that was quieter and no smell - which we were glad about.
However this soured our experience and the first night we had poor sleep due to the noise- of course in hindsight we would not have booked here knowing it’s so loud.
Rooms do not have any usb ports which is disappointing. No in room safe or security box either which is below expectations of modern hotels.
They need to update the breakfast system - no one uses paper coupons except candeo hotels.
Finally, the customer service was poor from hotel reception. The older male staff member speaks hardly any English so we had to use Google translate the whole time to communicate about issue with the room. When we requested extra pillows at night time they said they had no more; I doubt this is true because some rooms would have been vacant.
We paid for the most expensive room but the experience did not match sadly.
The only positive is that it is relatively close to public transport but most hotels in Fukuoka are anyway.
I cannot recommend...
Read moreThe location of this hotel is good in the buzzing Tenjin area of the city and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately our room was awful: tiny, gloomy and decorated in a really dated brown colour. The bathroom was so small my husband said it reminded him of a caravan bathroom and the door opened out into the room. The window looked out onto a multi storey car park so had pretty much no natural light and we had no idea what the weather was like.|The bed was very large but too big for the room so there was literally 4 inches between the bed and the wall on one side and about a 18 inches on the other side. There wasn’t any wardrobe space or in room safe. We managed to get both our cases opened but then had to climb over them to get to the bathroom. |Because the room was so small, the cool air from the aircon unit flowed along the ceiling and then dropped down the wall onto our head and necks while we were in bed so we both woke up with stiff necks. |The breakfast buffet was limited. |Please don’t stay there, we would have moved before staying had in not been just one night. We were on...
