really looked forward to going to this place. It started well despite the long wait time with the waitstaff taking orders while we were in line who was quite funny and attentive. I ordered escargot and the mussels paired with a glass of white wine. I was excited when it was finally my turn. however, my first bite of the mussels was a bit of an uncomfortable quandry for a traveler, as it was ice cold to the point the inside was crunchy lol i didnt want to spit it out as it was embarassing and people were seated really close together and didnt want to make others uncomfortable. so even worried about getting sick the night before my flight, i swallowed it down 😅 and shifted to eating the escargot. this dish was good: cooked and seasoned well and without the grit that comes with poorly done escargot. i went back to the mussels one more time to check if it was a fluke but the second bite was cold as well in the middle. at that point, i did my best to remove it from mouth as covertly as i could to be polite. focused on finishing my wine and escargot while observing the staff and the crowd. the customers were predominantly locals that night with the exception of myself and another couple. seemed the chef was more comfortable interacting with the locals; not surprising, but it does make it a less enjoyable experience, even a bit uncomfortable/disconcerting, for those not included/unable to understand the interactions. so once done with my wine, i paid and left. note that this yatai...
Read moreI was looking forward to my first Fukuoka yatai experience and with the abundance of choices, it was difficult to select which would break my cherry. But my partner recommended we get something different, a cuisine you can’t get everyday. So Remy’s floated to the top of the list, French cuisine in Japan. This Saturday night, we committed to the wait and stayed for the hour long line. The best part of that hour was the awesome young kid who took our order and practiced his English skills on me. It was great as we both learned from each other and we left better communicators after the interaction.
Finally after the wait, we were seated and our order came in promptly. Nama biru, mussels in white wine and garlic sauce, home made sausage, shrimp and mushroom in garlic sauce, and escargot. My goodness, the food was incredible! The common denominator I found, was the garlic butter and it made every dish it involved, amazing! Honestly I could’ve ordered four orders of each dish and I would’ve been happy with my dinner. We loved all the dishes, but what set this place apart was the personalities behind the counter. Remy himself is a sitcom in real life and the other partners he had accompanying him were just as wholesome and friendly. However long the wait is,...
Read moreI’ve seen this place on YouTube and just saved it not thinking I’d come. The line starts like an hour early. I happened to arrive 30min before they open and people already started to line up. They seat about 11 people at a time seats are available as customers leave, you’ll get an initial order while in line so they can basically serve you immediately after yo ur seated and can add more after your seated. The staff are super friendly, fluent in English, French, and Japanese. Food is great, quick, and surprisingly really affordable. You have can order however many dishes but you have to order at least one drink (they have non-alcoholic drinks too).
ASK before taking pictures of their stuff. The owner is 100% with pictures but be courteous. The other staff members don’t want to be in the pictures. So letting him know will let the owner let the staff know so they can let you take a nice picture.
Came when it was raining, so with the tarp it was a bit tight to on space, your really sitting at a bar counter shoulder to shoulder. So just know that at advanced.
Definitely worth a visit, I wish I had ordered more food but I was so full after...
