Last September , we had the pleasure of staying at this exquisite hotel to celebrate my mother’s 75th birthday, marking her first ever visit to Japan. The staff at the hotel exemplified professionalism, generosity, and a remarkable friendliness, truly embodying the esteemed Japanese spirit of hospitality.

The facilities were impeccably maintained, leaving no room for complaint. Our accommodations were flawless, complete with hot water, substantial pressure, and meticulous cleaning services. Every corner of the hotel, from the diverse restaurants and cafés to the laundry and housekeeping services, showcased top-tier excellence.

As Americans, we are accustomed to a certain standard of service, yet the hospitality extended to us here surpassed our expectations, and indeed, American service standards, by a substantial margin. The hotel staff’s thoughtful gestures, particularly the beautifully crafted gift presented to my mother at the restaurant, did not go unnoticed. The culinary delights, ranging from exceptional Chinese cuisine to traditionally served Japanese dishes, were a feast for the senses, complemented by stunning views from the top-floor Japanese restaurant.

What truly set this experience apart, however, was the unparalleled level of service. Every member of the staff went above and beyond to accommodate our requests, demonstrating kindness and a willingness to help at every turn. This, above all, has instilled in us a fervent desire to return in the near future.

In summary, our stay was nothing short of extraordinary. The hotel provided a perfect backdrop to our celebration, leaving us with cherished memories and a profound appreciation for the genuine hospitality that is the hallmark of this...

Part I:

It is a very nice old standard hotel. Everything is nice except that they put us in smoking rooms. Unfortunately, they are full and can’t do anything for 2 nights so we are suffering with sinus and poor sleep.

It seems that the air purifier in the room received NO service what so ever, the filter is clogged with nicotine stains and the carbon filter is full of dust (and so we turned it off). The house keeper ozonized our rooms today but it didn’t help as the cigarette smoke is imbedded in the carpet, wallpaper and the curtains. Imagine that we need to go buy hazardous masks to wear in the room. Quite a terrible experience. The AC is old, the fridge is barely working, and the ventilation fan in the bathroom is malfunctioning, making the room air circulating so bad.

Part 2:

After the terrible situation, we were moved to a non-smoking floor. The rooms here are super clean. Our rooms have new curtains, no smoke stains on the wall and ceiling. Everything works perfectly from the refresh to the air filtration system. The AC is also a newer system with English keyboard and screen.

We are very happy in the new rooms.

A lesson learned, make sure to receive an acknowledgment from the hotel on your special request, e.g., non-smoking rooms! Because they may not read your request at all.

Overall: without the incident of the smoky rooms, I would have given this hotel a full...

Do read all the negative reviews first before staying here! Most reviews are about the unprofessional and unethical behaviour of the staffs! They’re extremely antagonistic and literally enjoy patronising the hotel guests. I was enquiring about some food after 9pm being delivered to my room and the guy at the front reception who even LIED about his name by giving the name of this hotel “OTANI” was having his fun trying to antagonise me by refusing assistance to me and literally telling me to go F* myself and then hanging up the phone on me twice! ||When I went down to confront the person for what he said to me, nobody wanted to admit he was the guy. A coward who enjoys patronising others behind the phone which I am pretty sure he is a troll on the internet as well! The woman manager Koga even lied that he has gone home instead of apologising for his nasty attitude! ||Seriously, what kind of hotel allows the front staff to insult their guests constantly! Every enquiries was only met with a stoic “NO”! ||The most disgusting stay I had in Japan. ||I seriously don’t recommend this horrid place. Not worth all the grievances and bad behaviour...

You gotta admit that the rooms are outdated, where you could even use a metal fork instead of the card that comes with the key. But the place is amazing. I once forgot my charger there while the room was self-requested to be cleaned. Eventually, I've spoke to the support desk and, what do you guess? It's my charger! As for the hotel, they have shops inside along with a buffet, which is accessed by tickets given upon booking. The environment is a mix of old and new, which really gives it a nice, unique touch. As far as services are concerned, it's not that big of a deal, nor a huge pain. However, they're still stellar compared to others. You can choose whether they can clean your room or not, request an iron for your clothes, and even help you when something goes wrong! They'll also refill your accommodation, like teabags and/or water. The rooms are so silent, it's almost creepy, especially at night. Overall, I've had a great experience. Looking forward to visiting Hakata again in the future Bonus: Here's a time-lapse of my room's window in the morning for yall to enjoy. It's a bit short, though, due to Google's restrictions

Spacious Rooms with a Great View We stayed here in mid-March 2025 and had a wonderful experience. The room was very spacious—plenty of space for large 30-inch suitcases—and the bed and air conditioning made it very comfortable throughout our stay. The bathroom was spotless, with fresh towels replaced daily, which added to the overall cleanliness. What really stood out was the staff. They were super friendly, spoke English, and always greeted us with a smile, which made us feel welcome right away. The location is also excellent: everything is within walking distance, and public transportation is convenient and easy to use. For the price we paid, this hotel was a fantastic value. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Had stayed at this hotel for several times simply due to its location. Unfortunately, this time is the worst. Please see the photo of the declining lamp that reflects the actual room dated situation. There's also disgusting urine odor smell in the toilet, probably come from the pipe. Please note that their check out time is 11:00am and they insisted in charging 1,700yen per hour without any special consideration. The manner of those male staff at front office counter on Sep 7 evening is really bad & arrogant. They all need to be re-educated what does hospitality really mean. A very disappointed stay.
