The hotel is a great location for a quiet stay within a short travelling distance from Tokyo. Hakone-gora is a really sleepy town but it is a great base for exploring Owakudani and Lake Ashi for incredible views of Mount Fuji. ||The hotel rooms are really spacious and clean. I stayed in a small twin room, which was as big as a family room in Europe. The room had two beds which were 3/4 size and were the most comfortable beds I have found in a hotel for a while. The sofa area in the room was a great place to relax, though sadly the room I stayed in looked out over a wall. ||The hotel has some great facilities including a public and private Onsen. I definitely recommend using at least one of these because the bath facilities in the room are extremely small and hard to use. The rooftop seating area was a great place to relax and enjoy being surrounded by nature, my favourite part was coming up to see the incredible stars in the pollution free skies. Yukata were available for hotel guests to use and I found them to be a great touch ||The food in this hotel was really fresh and delicious Japanese dishes, with staff happily catering to my dietary needs. ||I would return to stay in this hotel in future. Read moreWe stayed as part of a tour group, enjoying the opportunity to wear traditional Yukata around the hotel. Shoes must be removed on arrival and some shared slippers are provided - seemingly all one size. It's possible to book a private onsen for a 45 minute slot, which was nice - just over 3000 yen. There is an issue with the drinks available to buy in reception, be wary - don't buy before you go into the restaurant, the staff tried to charge us a bring your own fee of more than the price of the drinks because we didn't order with the restaurant staff - and one staff member was really rude, almost aggressive insisting we hadn't bought the drinks at the hotel. Ludicrous as the staff member we had paid was standing in reception. It's a nice enough hotel, with a lot of rules. Overall our experience was ok, the bedrooms are a good size and the food was nice, just that one staff member who let down the hotel overall - there are plenty of other hotels to choose from in this area - I would always suggest checking around...
Read moreExcellent spot to explore Hakone. No disturbance from the renovation work. The roof terrace was under repair which didn't impact our stay. Rooms are dated for the price, least value for money out of all the hotels we stayed in Japan. Room walls are pretty thin, you can hear foot steps, coughs, wooden windows sliding etc. If you are arriving after 17:00 I would recommend the baggage porter service to your hotel from Hakone Yumuto station or try to find a taxi from Gora train station. Its a steep walk to the hotel especially with luggage. Its a shame the hotel shuttle finishes so early. There are no restaurants around the hotel so make sure you eat at place in Gore or before you head up to the hotel. There is a 24/7 snack/drinks/gift station in the hotel reception. Breakfast and set evening meal are expensive and only pre bookable the day before. Free room planetarium light is definitely...
