We enjoyed the luxuries of FUFU Hotel Hakone for two nights. From the moment you are greeted to the moment you depart, you are treated like a Superstar!||FUFU is an intimate, small resort with 5 star luxury opulence. It's the small extravagances like being served tea or cider upon arriving to their lobby. The front lobby staff's extra regard for personal care such as allergies, likes and dislikes. The serenity of the lobby and attentive staff members care for your well being. Being escorted to our room was novel. I believe the staff wish to ensure that typical Japanese rituals are adhered to. For example, the removal of shoes at the door, the donning of slippers and proper etiquette for the onsen and leisure wear.||The rooms are amazing! We enjoyed a Stylish Suite on the second floor. It was bespoked with a fully stocked drink fridge, plenty for wardrobe space and a giant TV with strong WiFi. The bed, a cloud of high quality linens, pillows and super plush mattresses. Our 2 double beds were together. I spoke with other patrons who said they had twins that were separate. The W/C was separate from the sink area and wet zone with onsen. The Onsen was hot! About 42*C but delightful to plunge into several times a day. A luxury! The bath amenities smell like the woods...pine. We greatly enjoyed the butlers pantry. Have a bunch of wet towels and soiled cups, pop them in, press the button and poof within minutes clean fresh items arrive without disturbance. The photos on line are exact images of what you will receive.||The meals are heavenly artistic creations! We enjoyed the Teppanyaki dinner one evening and the Kaiseki dinner on the other. We rather enjoyed the Kaiseki better, which was surprising. The chef at our Teppanyaki meal discovered that I am not a fan of sashimi and notified the staff so all my meals were slightly altered without this item. I greatly appreciated the thought and care of this act. Many thanks! Regarding breakfast, the Japanese meal far surpassed the Western meal. But I suspect many foreigners would not like it. One needs to be exposed to such culinary choices to enjoy. Every meal was so artistically presented and delicately arranged. Almost a shame to eat.||The grounds are immaculate and wonderfully lit at night. Very romantic and well designed. The public onsen was lovely. A different mineral water than the suites. With yummy popsicles and cold drinks to cool down with post soak. The space is well tended with great amenities and clean.||The hotel van shuttle service was a treat. Being chauffeured around Gora and Hakone made the travel easy. We did have difficulty requesting pick up at Gora upon arriving as we were unable to locate a pay phone to call the hotel. I would recommend setting up a pick up time via email. There are several vans and did not experience any wait time. It was very smooth!||Overall impressions...an amazing experience! Our two nights were about CAN$1552 all inclusive. Would I return...yes definitely! A little pampering is wonderful! FUFU surpassed all my...
Read moreI had such an amazing stay for 2 days in Feb!
Our room was much bigger than it looks in photos and decor was very warm and cozy, perfect for a cold winter day! Lots of small touches and amenities like Dyson hair dryer, unlimited coffee, Pocari sweat, beer by the public onsen locker rooms. Rooms kept nice and warm with a humidifier. Clothing and geta slippers were provided to wear around the resort to the onsens and dinner. Separate PJs as also given at night. WiFi in the room was fast.
Public onset is very clean with a small locker room with a view of the forest/mountain - since each room has a private onset I only visited the public one once. The private room onset was big enough for 2 people. The hot water is continuously flowing within the onset itself and there is a dial to turn on extra cold water if needed - I thought this was a good addition to help regular the temperature a bit more. While it's in the shower room, the windows can open up which was great to also feel the cold winter air while sitting in the onsen.
Dinner was extensive and very filling and delicious. I liked having some options for the multi course meal (no English menu, but google translate was enough) and was able to reserve teppanyaki for our second night. There's only 6 seats so I would reserve this when you book the hotel. It was fun watching the chef work and the meal was just as exquisite! Since we stayed 2 nights I liked that both our breakfasts had different food.
We were able to call for a pick-up once we arrived at Gora station - very easy and fast but as an international visitor you'll need to call from Skype or another service. They are a 5-10 min walk (not too hilly) from the Gora cable car (there's another stop that's closer so you don't have to walk all the way back to Gora station) and we were able to take a bus back from the Gora open air museum which stopped near the hotel.
Some issues with the property prior to our visit: I had a lot of difficulty getting in touch with them over a series of weeks after making the reservation. Their phone number only works if called from a Japanese number which doesn’t work if you’re a foreign tourist (even using Skype etc). Eventually they did respond via emails and it seems like they are getting up to speed with foreign visitors as they opened prior to Japan opening up. Staff did speak enough English to explain things to us though the extensive menu was still all in Japanese. I used google translate to pick my meals. I was able to call using Skype once I was in Japan and had arrived at Gora station...
Read moreMy wife did all the Hakone Hotel research and was impressed with FuFu. I thought it was pricey but after our stay it was well worth it.||The hotel was located a short drive from the train station and felt very secluded and surrounded by trees and beautiful gardens. We arrived early and were able to drop off our bags and head out for a day of sightseeing. There was no problems driving us back and forth to the station.||Checkin was very personalized and escorted to our room where everything was clearly explained. Our room was large and came fully stocked with all amenities, drinks and of course the in room onsen. The onsen was quite large and the prefect temp for multiple soaks during our stay. While the water source is different than the main hotel onsen, we appreciated not having to go anywhere and just be able to jump in anytime. ||Room ambiance was modern and cozy. Very comfortable beds. A nice couch in front of the TV. Any room request was handled very discreetly through the cupboard by the front door. Just press a button and our dinner selections were picked up but there was no notification when our newspaper or slippers were delivered. ||Staff service was impressive and we found it easy to communicate in English with various staff. We were always greeted anywhere on the property, meal service was timely and every dish explained to us, and even our drop off back at the train station went above (carried our heavy suitcases down and back up to the other side of the tunnel).||Both dinner and breakfast were some of the best meals we experienced in Japan. Every selection was well prepared, presentation was beautiful and delicious. Definitely an elevated Japanese dining experience and complemented our stay.||We definitely left relaxed, bellies full and had a very positive experience. We are seriously considering staying at another FuFu during our...
