Tiny Ryokan just across the ferry pier. The owner is lovely and very welcoming, although she doesn’t speak any English. Our room (Japanese Style triple room) offered the traditional Japanese Ryokan experience we were looking for to do for 1 night. The room was very large and the futon beds surprisingly comfortable. The bathroom is super clean, but quite basic and tiny. We could see some deer from our window who were walking around in front of the Ryokan which was nice. Note that Ryokan doesn’t offer breakfast (all restaurants on the island seemed to be closed in the morning, but there is a Starbucks a little further down the road which opens early) and they only take cash payments. ||Only 1 restaurant on the island opened in the evening during our stay (end of April) which is the Japanese Pub in the main shopping street (the guesthouse owner has a map with all the restaurants on...
Read moreThis place is in a class of its own. The traditional Japanese room is so beautiful and provides a full experience with a sitting area, a comfy tatami bed, yukatas (robes) ironed and folded perfectly etc. It's extremely clean and I can testify that we came to pick up our bags on the following day and I happened to see how they scrub the bathroom we barely used the previous night!||||The lady who runs the place seems to be obsessed with rabbits with little statues of hares everywhere. But it's harmless and frankly cute. The rooms are named after the lunar phases. So much attention to detail in pretty much everything!||||The only con is that it isn't cheap (around 15,000 yen or around £100 today) and they accept cash only, which is a bit too much, considering it's virtually impossible to find an ATM that accepts foreign cards. So ensure you carry enough cash prior to...
Read moreI stayed here in April with my mother. A VERY easy location to find, just veer to the right once exiting the ferry terminal and look for the building (a wee grassy park with deer on it just front of it) ||The landlady welcomed us on arrival, and although speaks minimal English is so incredibly willing to help in any way, including drawing detailed diagrams/maps. She sells bottled water on sale here for 100Yen.||||The room is spacious and immaculately clean, and has a great view of the deer. ||||Starbucks is a short walk away, but be sure to try a cafe serving the locally roasted coffee...to die for! The information brocures have these listed, and the one we went to was super easy to find. ||||There was no problem storing our luggage once we had checked out.||||Overall, an...
