We arrived at the hotel around 15h00 and were met at reception by two very friendly and helpful ladies who checked us in and gave us our room key whilst explaining the workings of the hotel such as the laundry on the 15th floor and beverage vending machines with a free ice machine and a microwave (1 only) on the 16th floor. Coffee bags, tea bags, face cloths, razors and other personal toiletries are laid out in reception for you to take as required at no charge.||This hotel itself has its reception on the 13th floor and the rooms on the floors above that, the floors up to and including 12 are occupied by businesses but the elevators do not allow access to those floors. On the ground floor as you enter the building there is a very handy and well stocked 7/11 convenience store should you wish to purchase your food and eat it in the hotel.||Our room was large by Japanese hotel standards and comprised of an open closet as you walk in followed by one of the nicest bathrooms I have ever come across in a hotel with an ante-room in which the basin was located and then next to that a huge wet room comprising of a large overhead shower rose and a full bath side by side in this room. Body wash, shampoo and conditioner of very high quality were available. Next to the wet room was the door to the normal Japanese electronic toilet with the controls mounted on the wall next to you.||The bedroom contained two hard three-quarter beds each with just one hard pillow. I like a hard bed but this was unfortunately just a little too hard for me which resulted in me having rather restless nights. Apart from the beds the room consisted of two chairs and a desk / table and a long headboard incorporating a long light. A large flat screen TV was mounted on the wall above this desk / table.||Another oddity was that there is not a single international news channel available on the television so if you want to stay abreast with international events you have to stream it on one of your electronic devices. The hotel WIFI was good and I managed to stream whatever I wanted without issue.||The location of this hotel is excellent, that being about 150 metres from the main Hiroshima train station. The surrounding area is very commercial but we found the hotel to be well located for our purpose which was sightseeing and we like to walk which suited us well. The walk to the Peace Park for instance took us approximately 30 minutes at a brisk pace.||We did not include breakfast at this hotel so I am unable to comment on the breakfast offering.||We enjoyed our stay at the Daiwa Roynet Hotel Hiroshima-Ekimae from a location perspective but the hard beds / pillows and the fact that there are no international news channels available on the television would probably result in us staying elsewhere if we ever found ourselves in...
Read moreWe stayed at the Daiwa Roynet Hiroshima Hotel Ekimae, a hotel chain. It is right across the street from the Hiroshima Train Station and the Airport Limousine Bus Stop, had a 7-Eleven in the lobby and a Lawson’s (another convenience store chain) right across the mall. There were also several restaurants on the first and second floor and also a long distance limousine bus company. The building is shared so the lobby to the hotel is on the 13th floor and the hotel goes to the 20th floor which has a great Japanese breakfast buffet for about 1600 Yen or you could have it included with your room at additional cost. The 20th floor also has a small fitness center, coin operated laundromat, vending machines and a microwave oven. We stayed on the 18th floor. This was my first experience with a Japanese Hotel but although it was small, I was impressed. The walk-in shower had the shower head built into the ceiling, had a full tub right next to it and a hand/wall held sprayer that you could adjust the height of to spray your body. They had a safe, house slippers (very well made and durable), hot pot, small refrigerator, hair dryer, flat screen TV (but I couldn’t find a channel with English closed caption), a device to press your pants, a long handled shoe horn and provided all the consumables including green tea, ume cha, tooth brushes and paste, razors, combs, q-tips. The Western style toilet had a bidet that had all the bells and whistles including auto flush. The Japanese q-tips are different and I like them better for cleaning your ear. The Japanese toilet tissue is very thin, probably to minimize clogging their sewers, so I highly recommend using the bidet. Once you learn how to use it, you’ll love it. I am considering installing one in our home. Even a lot of Japanese public toilets have bidets although some of them are the Eastern style toilet where you have to squat over it. The bed in our room doesn’t have box springs and the mattress is about 4 inches thick making for a hard bed. But I liked it. At our hotel, you could also rent a Lap top, loaded with MS Office for about 800 Yen per day. I assume they have an English version available because the notice was in English and Japanese. A strange thing I noticed was that housekeeping always closed the drains for the tub and vanity after they were done. Maybe it’s because they don’t want you to accidentally drop something down the drain. The only thing is if you wanted coffee, you could get complimentary packets from the front desk. But I drank the 7-Eleven freshly ground hot coffee every morning and evening. Their large coffee is slightly smaller than the Hawaii McDonald’s small coffee and cost 150 Yen, but the taste is comparable. I guess coffee is still...

You can easily reach it, even with luggage, via a convenient covered walkway with strategic elevators - then with just a few steps street side.
You access the reception of the hotel on the 13th floor of their building, with rooms and breakfast area higher up. The staff are friendly and do their best to accommodate your needs. Amenities are provided at the reception lobby with bottled water in the room, a safe, great bath products, pajamas, and a heating kettle.
For two of us, the 21m2 room moderate double room was comfortable and accommodated our winter-sized larger luggage. Cleaning is only upon your request with the use of a magnet note that you can put on your door.
My husband and I enjoyed the buffet breakfast at a higher floor - great selection of mostly Asian & Japanese food -- with a lovely view. They had this yummy yuzu based salad dressing that I found out was exclusive to their online store - I regret not having had enough time to bring home a bottle!
A tip - to get around Hiroshima, take the super affordable hop on hop of bus, available with their equally affordable tourist pass! We hardly had to use our IC card for transportation here!
