I usually like staying at Hilton Hotels, but because they didn't have a Hilton in Hiroshima, and Sheraton Hawaii was fantastic, we stayed here.
Price was excellent. location was amazingly good. Service is reasonably good but not fantastic. (I had this as 2 star review initially but once I realised the price at check out was fantastic, I felt 3 star was more fair)
What really put me off this place is the fact that I was told we would have to pay aud$40 to have myself and my daughter use the pool. Whilst I was shocked, I agreed to it as my daughter really wanted to get in the pool.
But they also have a second clause that said no floatation devices allowed. Not even my daughter's arm floats. I confirmed at the spa desk that this is correct, and was told o wouldn't be allowed to have the arm floats in the water.
I went back to the room and spoke to guest services, and was told that this is correct. And even when I said the float is the only thing stopping my daughter from drowning whilst playing in the pool, I was told I would have to "hold her".
It took all night before they finally told me their manager has allowed my daughter to use her arm floats, and that they will charge us only aud$30 to use the pool.
To the management. I told your manager I would love to speak to you In person, as I cannot find a way to contact and give you direct feedback. This was not entertained at the point of this review. PLEASE review your policies regarding pool safety equipment. I understand you not wanting guests to use human sized blown up floats, but it should not mean all floatation devices are banned. Secondly, you are a premium 5 star hotel brand. Charging guests to use the pool is only going to cause brand damage. Inatead I suggest you consider charging every room about 400 yen (aud$5) more at booking. Looking at your past reviews, so many negative reviews would have been minimised this way. Lastly, I felt the reason why guest services had to wait till next morning to offer me acceptable resolution is because your managers and assistant managers are capable, but not given enough authority. If I am correct in saying so, this severely undermines their ability to perform their job.
I wish you the best, but at present will be avoiding Sheraton in Japan, having had only pleasant experiences in other 5 star...
Read moreThis is an pretty average international Sheraton hotel, based right next to the Shinkansen exit of the JR Hiroshima station. If you take the airport limousine bus from the airport, it drops you off half a block away from the hotel entrance. The location is not central to Hiroshima, but has a great variety of transit options. For example, all trams start at the JR station, and there’s easy access to the Miyajima ferry via JR Rail. The Sightseeing Loop Bus starts in front of the hotel as well. There are also plenty of food options nearby in the JR station, and across the street accessible via a walkway on the 2nd floor.
When I checked in, there were no upgraded rooms available, and I was put in a Deluxe Room. It’s a pretty standard size, with an open bathroom layout. There was a box of Japanese sweets waiting for me in the room, and are given two bottles of water a day. The room felt a bit humid, even with the AC on. Other than that, I had no complaints.
For breakfast, you can have 500 points and eat breakfast in the lounge. If you want to eat in the restaurant downstairs, there will be a 1028 Yen surcharge (about 50% off). I didn’t ask if you could choose breakfast downstairs in lieu of the 500 points though. The Lounge is open all day, and serves a traditional continental breakfast, along with hot items such as scrambled eggs, potatoes, fish, waffle wedges, sausage, and bacon. Soft drinks and wine are available all day. In the evenings, the lounge puts out extremely light appetizers. A bit of a disappointment, really. Beef salad, tater tots, veggies, and such. One day I didn’t even find anything of interest to eat! I expected a heartier selection, especially in Asia!
The gym is pretty standard, and contains all the necessary cardio machines and weights. It’s open 24/7. I passed a neat looking lap pool too. The pool/jacuzzi fee is 1620 Yen/person, and the Sauna is 540 Yen/person. Fitness center is free.
The hotel staff are all friendly, and the ones I dealt with all had a great grasp of English. WiFi speeds are about average. Sometimes it would drop out, and I would have to disconnect and reconnect to get things going again. All in all, this is a pretty solid Sheraton, and I would definitely...
Read moreStayed here for 2 sets of 5 nights. While writing, I’m still on the 2nd set of stay.
Location is excellent for transport as it’s directly at Shinkansen/JR Station, airport limo and even aeon mall + city sightseeing shuttle. However shopping wise they are far from the main shopping belt. But u can always take a street tram or sightsee bus to get around easily.
Room was very large even for their deluxe room for japan context. And for biz trip, room offered a conducive table and space for me to work all day in room. Bed was comfy, bath space was ideal with a decent depth tub. Cleanliness was good.
However As platinum member and lifetime gold, recognition was poor. I thought for 10 nights and I booked fairly early, some nights will have a suite or maybe a corner room. But instead I only got a better view basic room (which half the inventory face the same view). The check in staff didn’t even bother asking me if I wanted points or local amenity nor inform me for not upgrading me.
I do get lounge access. In japan, club benefits doesn’t mean u get free breakfast at the main buffeteria unlike most Asian properties. But that’s fine. Breakfast at lounge is decent western fare. However my favorite Japanese breakfast basics were sorely missed in the club lounge unlike Sheraton grande Tokyo Disneyland.
And the hotel seem not to offer creative menus for club lounge. They rotate among 2 set of pre-dinner cocktail on alternate days. First few days, u can fill your stomach. But longer, u can already know the taste before u go into the lounge. To someone who’s out here for 10 nights, it’s quite painful. Nonetheless, drinks and alcohol selection is high quality.
If I’m coming back to this city again, I’ll defintiely love to stay this hotel again.
If I can Offer some suggestions, I hope the hotel can be more generous to platinum members with an upgraded corner room (even if you hold your suites as sacred assets),
Offer some Japanese menu for breakfast at lounge. And offer more varieties for the evening cocktail dishes. An udon soup or porridge...
