My partner and I travel a lot. As Hyatt Globalists, we tend to prefer Hyatt hotels. Let me tell you, without any exaggeration, our stay at Hyatt Regency Kyoto was one of the best stays we’ve ever had. The rooms are gorgeous, stylish, roomy, and clean. But that’s not what I came here to compliment.
The reason you should stay at this hotel is because the staff make it an experience for you. The service at HR Kyoto is practically unrivaled.
My partner and I were visiting for her birthday / the anniversary of our engagement. We made that known when we were booking and when we arrived, we were greeted like the hotel already knew we were coming! The GM and the Assistant GM came out to greet us. They were so friendly and professional. That’s such a wonderful touch and not something any of the other three Hyatt hotels did during our 8 days (and counting!) in Japan so far. Incredible service and professionalism from Mr. Tim O’Driscoll and AGM Ms. Yuko Nakakura. After check-in and absolutely gawking over our incredible room, it was pretty late and we were ready for dinner. Just in-passing, we decided to ask someone at the front desk for recommendations. Rejold at the front desk was incredible! He asked us our preferences and provided us with a list of recommendations for every setting! Upscale, traditional, local, trendy. His recommendations and attentiveness to our feedback was incredible. I don’t believe he was the designated concierge, so his effort to help us was above and beyond. He was so friendly the entire time and after we settled on an idea, he hailed us a cab! Absolutely incredible professionalism and service. Nam and Dennis both assisted us during room setup and checkout, so helpful and genuine.
The next morning we did a lovely hike and came back to the hotel famished. We decided to try the Club 33 breakfast. I highly recommend it. The service there is also amazing. I, unfortunately, missed the name of our Day 1 waitress who seated us and took our order but she had the most genuine smile and wished my partner a happy birthday (we didn’t even tell them as we entered!) Day 2 Chaeyoun (please excuse my spelling!) served us and was great. I’m impressed by how well the restaurant caters to its visitors. My partner briefly mentioned to me a type of juice she liked while we filled our plates and they brought it to us! Amazing customer service!
The breakfast at Club 33 was amazing. The fruit was so fresh, the baked goods were wonderful, the smoked salmon was fresh and flavorful. We ordered the Japanese breakfast box and it was inspired. Incredibly well prepared with complexity and thoughtfulness. Truly an experience!
The hotel is well situated. Walkable to stations and on bus lines. We had no issues traversing to see our sights during our stay.
My partner and I have had no issues communicating our needs during our stay in Japan. If we ever couldn’t communicated in English, gestures, our elementary Japanese language knowledge, and translation applications have done the trick and it’s not been an issue. But at HR Kyoto, EVERYONE has spoken English. And well! It’s absolutely not a necessity, as we are guests in Japan - and the burden of communication should be on us. But this just goes to show the level of commitment to excellent service. The hotel has an incredible wealth of trilingual staff. The staff is VERY diverse. This will serve their team so well, not just to English speaking tourists!
I wish we were here longer. Hyatt hotels always go above and beyond compared to stays at other hotel chains, but Hyatt Regency Kyoto specifically has the best staff we’ve ever encountered at a Hyatt. They give Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile a run for their money, and that’s truly saying something. This place is well run, well maintained, and incredibly well staffed with the best team we’ve ever seen. We will absolutely be returning, and if you’re on the fence - get off it. This is the hotel for you.

Read moreCurrenrly staying at the Kyoto Hyatt Regency and while the hotel had many great features, I was extremely disappointed with their gym being under renovation. As a frequent traveler and someone who relies on hotel gyms to maintain my physical therapy recovery from an injury, it was a major inconvenience for me. I was informed of the renovation upon check-in, but unfortunately, there were no other alternative nearby gyms. Additionally, I had forgotten my Anytime Fitness FOB, so I was unable to go to any other gyms in the vicinity. This made it difficult for me to maintain my exercise routine and my physical therapy progress.
The hotel front desk staff were amazing and tried their best to accommodate my needs, but the lack of an alternative gym solution was a major disappointment. I understand that renovations are necessary but it would have been greatly appreciated if the hotel had made arrangements for their guests to have access to a nearby gym during the renovation period.
Despite this, the hotel itself was beautiful and had a great location. The room was spacious, comfortable and well-appointed, and the view of the city was stunning. The staff were friendly, professional and always willing to help.
The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of delicious food options, and the restaurant staff were attentive and accommodating my meal with care. The hotel also had a great lounge area where I could relax and unwind after a long day of exploring the city.
The hotel's location was also a major plus. It was close to many popular attractions and tourist destinations in Kyoto, making it easy for me to explore the city.
I have yet to complete my stay at the Kyoto Hyatt Regency, but the lack of an alternative gym solution during the renovation period was a major disappointment. As someone who relies on hotel gyms to maintain my physical therapy recovery, it made it difficult for me to continue my exercise routine. However, I would recommend this hotel to others due to the beautiful rooms, great location, and friendly staff. I look forward to returning to the hotel once the gym is completed and hope that they will have made arrangements for their guests to have access to a nearby gym during any future renovations.
Hope this serve as a reminder to those who requires gym in Jan 2023.
I know I'm being difficult but just airing my disappointment.
Recommended for all travellers still. I will definitely be coming back...
Read moreMy stay here was really great. The staff were incredibly hospitable from the start. When my taxi was pulling into the hotel, one of the staff members ran out to greet me and take my bags for check in. After finishing checking in, they then took my bags for me, while also giving me a tour of the property and my room.
I booked a standard room and was offered an amazing upgrade to an executive suite with a beautiful garden view. Since this hotel has so few suites and they’re all premium suites, I wasn’t expecting this at all, but it made me feel really appreciated as a Globalist.
My suite was located on the first floor, which would normally be a bad thing, but since it faces the interior garden, it’s very quiet and private. The hallway to the rooms is tucked away on the opposite side of the main entrance, so there’s very little foot traffic, and it was nice to not need to use an elevator during my stay.
The room is large and I like that the beds are double sized instead of twin sized. They’re firm but comfortable, the sheets were nice and crisp, and there’s both a soft and hard pillow to choose from. There’s also a traditional tatami style dining room, which was neat to see and I did enjoy a room service dinner in it.
The shower and bathtub area is enormous, the wooden bathtub is the largest I’ve seen and could probably comfortably fit 3 or 4 people. I also liked that the rainfall shower head and the handheld shower head could be turned on at the same time, and their temperatures could also be adjusted individually.
There is no lounge, but the breakfast buffet in the lobby restaurant for Globalists is decent. I believe Globalists also get a free drink at the bar daily if you present your room key.
The hotel does have a maiko performance on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 6:15pm on the lower level, which I was able to catch. I didn’t really care for the performance, but I liked that the hotel offered it for free, so I didn’t have to go out of my way and see it elsewhere.
There’s also a free taxi offered from Kyoto Station to the hotel, but I’m not sure it’s really worth waiting for. It’s only for MK Taxi, which is a short walk away from the main taxi line by the station exit, and the wait was around 20 mins at 6pm on a weekday. Since the distance is so short, next time I’d probably pay the 1000 yen and...
