TL;DR - Eat here, delicious food with flavors true to Kyoto. Only tourists, no locals.
Let’s just get this out of the way, I’ve reviewed over 100+ burger joints around the world. Kyo No Miyako Burger is the definition of just a guy who loves burgers and cooks to nourish other people. His burgers are the perfect messy, gooey, cheesy layered art with thick bacon. The fries are FANTASTIC with a chef’s kiss!
FOOD: Overall, fantastic homage to Kyoto. Don’t come here expecting A5 Waygu or other gimmicks, they’re focused on flavor.
Kyo No Miyako Premium - a beautiful burger built with a hamburger marinated in a sauce, thick overwhelming slice of bacon, and topped with a fried egg. I typically hate fried eggs on burgers, as it’s too messy and doesn’t add flavor - but this was already not winning awards for a clean eat. On the menu it said it was going to have avocado, but the actual burger did not have it.
Okara Burger - sliced into three, this is a cleaner burger with no drip. Uses a ponzu sauce - great umami flavors.
SERVICE: I’ve never had a chef follow me out of his shop and bow as if I’m his houseguest. That’s game-changing & defines his brand.
Service was slow, as it’s only him but that’s ok! Meal came out like a set menu. Salad, then the Burgers came out one by one like a set menu. Don’t come with a large group of people.
As many people on Google mention, he will show you his sword collection after the meal for photos.
Loved the service, this is like eating at a friend’s house.
Some small areas for improvement: saltiness on the burger may be too much, he just opened this year so he’s optimizing the menu. ADD MORE FRIES, they’re so good! PROVIDE Gloves!! 100% necessary and would add to the experience.
OVERALL: ‘Kyo No Miyako’ is the former name of the capital when it was Kyoto. This is the burger capital, and I highly recommend going with no expectations other than a delicious messy burger and a man who wants to show guests hospitality. I hope he grows into a bigger space and adds another burger chef. Wishing the best!

Read moreThe atmosphere here is amazing! The owner is cool to talk to and the cook is a swift and gentle. I ordered the “Kyo No Miyako Super Premium Double Burger (Sengoku)” The burger is a beast that you must defeat. Tho with the owner around to lend you a sword. He will help show you how to take down that burger! My over all time here is great. While everything is cooking the owner showed off his collection of sword and other samurai gear. The whole experience is entertaining. The food was made so well with the attention to the smallest detail. What you see is what you get no matter what. And the chef makes sure that everything is done right before sending it out. The burger I had was smothered in cheese and paired with huge cuts of bacon. Pair with a fried egg of top! You can’t ask for anything more savory than that! If you in Kyoto you have to give this place a try! I also orders the owners special watermelon sherbet soda. It’s light refreshing with frozen cuts of watermelon and watermelon juice ice cubes to keep the soda cool. The drink also comes with house made sherbet for a...
Read moreI came here looking for burgers and got what I wanted: great burgers. The burgers were on the smaller side, and the fry portion was small too; it also took awhile for the food to arrive. However, the point of this place isn’t for quick and easy burgers; it is more the work of an artist. There is only one cook, but the vibes are good with upbeat music. One thing I will say is that there wasn’t great ventilation in the restaurant, making it smoky inside. Eventually they opened the door to clear it up, but it remained hazy up until I left. Burger specific advice: the egg burger is not a sunny-side egg but a scramble loosely surrounding the patty. The person I was with got the classic burger, which was inarguably better than mine. Mine was good but not great, but that is just because I chose wrong. TLDR: Nice people and artistic burgers, so don’t expect it to be a quick meal. Portions are small but good. Don’t get the egg burger; the other options are...
