Sekia Wagaya Hotel has a superb location for those who want to escape from the tourist packs after a day's journey. It is very near to convenience stores - there is a 7-Eleven shop and a FamilyMart within 200 meters, and there is a big supermarket right across the street. Commute wise, it is easily accesible to bus stops and within a kilometer of train station. As for food, there are MANY great Ramen options nearby, one of which is even a Michelin gourmet destination.
As for the room itself, we stayed af two room types. It's convenient if you would like to cook something on your own - there is a tiny kitchen available packed with basic utensils and cookware. If you're lucky enough to be placed on high floor, you can even see Kyoto tower and Kyoto Research Park from your window.
Now comes to downside.
When we extended our stay, we had to move from one room type to another. One of the receptionist was kind and understanding enough on the night prior and informed us that we can collect our key to the new room the next day right after check-out, as the new room was cleaned and vacant. In the next day, however, another receptionist insisted that we had to check-out at 10AM, move all our belongings to the common corridor, and wait till 3PM to check-in again. The 3PM check-in rules were set in place to ensure there is enough time for janitors to clean the room, and allow sufficient buffer time just in case existing customers would like to extend beyond 10AM. Allowing existing customers to move in early, knowing there won't be any impact to others, feel like a reasonable thing to agree to. This particular staff however, wanted me to wait for 5 hours, shows her lack of empathy. Even after being told about the previous agreement, I had to prolong the conversation with the receptionist for an hour, before she accepted the room change reluctantly.
The lack of hospitality of this particular staff shows that she prioritized admin bureaucracy over empathy, efficiency and customers' overall experience.
A few other downsides: rooms have left-over food smell coming out from the kitchen sink. Could be better. Wifi signal was very weak when I stayed at the 2nd floor, barely enough to...
