||I had wanted to stay at this all-inclusive hotel
Ichinobo.''|Perhaps I had too high expectations based on the high scores in word-of-mouth reviews, but this is my personal and honest opinion (including some harsh comments).||Room I stayed in: View twin 45㎡ + corner sofa/RW 4.5th floor (non-smoking)|The room layout, bed, and furniture are all good.|You can enjoy an elegant view of Matsushima Bay and the garden pool from the comfortable L-shaped sofa.||The fridge is empty, and I was told that I can go get drinks from the lounge, but I had to pour in paper cups to bring back.||There was only one sink in the bathroom, and no tub, just a shower.||The lounge from 3:00 to 5:00 offered coffee, tea, juice, beer, rosé sparkling wine, flavored sake, ice cream, and small snacks.|My honest impression is that it's Cheap.|Although it's not as fancy as afternoon tea or high tea, I would have liked to see a little more variety. It would have been nicer if there were fresh cakes and canapés, not only dried cookies and nuts (several types of flavored nuts were delicious).|Also, many of the drinks including alcoholic beverages were cheap. I wish they had a more high-end coffee machine (the Crema was good) and better tea brand such as TWG tea bags.||Since it's all-inclusive, the glass museum next door is complimentary.|Please note that you can enter from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on the day of your stay, and from 9:30 on the next day until check-out at 11:00.|Going to the lounge, taking a bath, and then dinner starting at 5pm, so if I was pressed for time, I would probably be able to go after breakfast the next day.|If guests were given admission tickets, they could go leisurely after checking out, but why go to such lengths?|This glass museum has an expensive admission fee of 1,200 yen for general visitors.|It's a nice museum, but from my point of view, I walked slowly and finished in 10-15 minutes (maybe because I was in a hurry), so anyone who went out of their way to pay 1,200 yen to visit this museum might be disappointed.||The large public bath on the 5th floor is spacious, and the shower stalls are well spaced apart, so you don't have to worry about hitting the person next to you with their shower.|An open-air bath overlooking Matsushima Bay was gorgeous.|The warm water was thick and had a mysterious texture that was gentle on the skin, and it felt really good.||On the 1st floor of a different building, there is also a
garden spa'' Loury sauna and rock salt bedrock bath.|This is recommended for couples as both men and women can enter together.||Both dinner and breakfast are Order Buffet Style.|You go to the counter and the chef prepares each item one by one and hands it to you, so the presentation is beautiful.|Compared to a buffet at a regular hot spring inn, the food is warmer, fresher, and of better quality, but I feel that the quality is different from a course meal where each item is served to the table one by one.|To be honest, dinner was disappointing.|For example, the two main items|"Sendai beef crebinette, port wine sauce, black truffle scent"(sounds sophisticated)|This is grilled beef fat wrapped in vegetables, but it was so hard and chewy that the fat and sinew remained in my mouth and I could barely swallow it, which was a shame because the presentation was good and the sauce was delicious.|I'm sure others thought the same way.|And also “Sangen Pork Roast Herb Scented Japonais Sauce”|It was cold when it was served, and the two very thin pieces of meat were so tough that I couldn't chew them. The famous grilled beef tongue is also not as good as expected.|The Japanese dishes that were better include sashimi, sushi, soup, and the white rice "Date Masayume."|Breakfast was much better.|The dashimaki egg omelette was fluffy and piping hot, and the salt-grilled salmon was soft and had just the right amount of salt. The braised pork is melty. |The croissant was delicious and might be the best croissant I've had at a buffet.| |I thought it would be unsuitable for the elderly because you have to go to the counter to pick up each item one by one, and the popular items are lined up.|Also, the staff don't clean up the plates after you've finished eating, and you have to carry them to the table , so it's a hassle and a hassle.||Alcohol is plentiful. Be careful not to drink too much.|There were three types of wine, white and red, as well as champagne, sake, and whisky.|But when it comes to wine, I was disappointed in cheap bottles sold at supermarkets.|I should not expect all-you-can-drink good wine, though.| |After the meal, there will be a cocktail hour in the lounge from 7:00 to 10:00 with live music. There were 3 types of cocktail available.|It is unclear whether they will be able to make standard cocktails as well.||The staff are consistent in being professional and kind overall. however, there were a several issues bothered me.|When we checked in, we were asked to sign a paper saying that if I lost my card key, it would cost 5,500 yen (I believe) for each card. I've heard that those cards with magnets aren't cheap, but I was surprised to have customer agree with such things at this considered to be high end hotel. |Also, it would be better if there was English information on the food menus and public displays for foreign customers.| |This is a harsh review, but as I wrote at the beginning, my expectations were too high.|Still, in terms of overall satisfaction, it's a... Read moreWe booked a Twin Room with garden view for one night at Matsushima Ichinobo from 11/2 to 11/3.
Service: 5/5. The staff were kind and attentive.
Food: 5/5. The dinner and breakfast was an order buffet, so you dine with others in a large room and order dishes at a live kitchen. It is good to come earlier so you have enough time to try everything, but it became crowded around 6:30pm, and there were lines. Overall, the food was excellent and there was a large variety. You can try both the Japanese and western dishes. There are also many alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
Onsen: 4/5. There can be many people at the public onsen baths, since there are a lot of guests. We tried both baths. The view of Matsushima bay is excellent in the morning. There is cold milk you can buy outside the baths. The onsen water feels slippery but is refreshing.
Room: 5/5. The twin room with garden view had a beautiful view of Matsushima bay in the morning. There is no face & moisturizer amenities so you must use the ones in the public bath.
Entertainment: 4/5. We enjoyed the live saxophone music in the lounge. We were unable to visit the bar, spa, or glass museum. The floating garden could be a bit better maintained. The Wi-Fi was spotty throughout the hotel.
Overall: 5/5. It is a luxury hotel experience in Matsushima, but different from a traditional ryokan. I would visit again for the food and the view of...
Read moreI highly recommend this hotel!!
First of all the dinner buffet is epic. You get to have grilled ox tongue, otoro sushi or sashimi, Sendai roast beef steak, tempuras, , desserts, pasta, etc etc , PLUS all you can drink of various kinds of red, white wine, sakes, and soft drinks. Everything was made with quality ingredients not cheap buffet food. And they are all served in a comfortable nice place with an upscale vibe.
And then the room was very nice and spacious. We had a sea view room facing the nice park. We were able to see sunset and sunrise! And the onsen was newly renovated with seaview too.
In addition there is a lounge at lobby with music and free cocktails and drinks. The only problem we had was not having enough time to enjoy the entire hotel ! We didn’t had a chance to walk around the nice park downstairs. The only complaint we had was probably a lack of a decent bathroom in room, there was only a small claustrophobic shower stall.
Anyway after we are back home a month later we are still talking about this hotel and already planning to go back. The city is already an interesting place with lots of monuments I suggest anyone to stay for two nights to fully enjoy the hotel...
