Benesse House Beach — Hotel in Naoshima

Good location on Naoshima Island, great garden and good views. The rooms are very average, the second star for the good view. The hype around Naoshima seems to have gone to the hotel management's head. Definitely no four star service at the front desk. You feel as if you are being processed in a municipal registration office. No servicing the client no helping to solve problems. The French would get insulted to call the food they serve at the Terrace Restaurant, French. Don't stay here. Go to any of the hotels close to this one and come and use the beautiful garden of Benesse...

Superb. Unique experience if you like art. Yes, it's not the same quality level as high end hotels in tokyo or Kyoto (ie the hard product is so-so) but the views were spectacular and you're effectively staying on a museum complex. I would put 3* if not the price of ¥150k per night. Frankly speaking I am didnt get all this hype around Naoshima.
