EAT LOCAL 直島食堂 — Restaurant in Naoshima

Food was quite bad. Other tables outside were smart enough to reserve 24 hours in advance the bbq meal that looked delicious. Unfortunately we did not, and that left us with terrible fried chicken that was warmed up in the microwave topped with a quite atrocious pinkish sauce. The potatoes, cherry tomatoes, tofu and Brussels sprouts were swimming in a quite deceiving and depressive olive oil. Worst meal we had in Japan in a 3 weeks trip. And all of that with quite a pricey ticket for a very sad meal...

Canteen where you can eat a tasty set Japanese meal under the trees by the beach. Order at the machine (it's in Japanese and English), take your ticket and the staff call your number (in both languages) on the tannoy when it's ready. I enjoyed a veg curry, my husband had some big chunky sashimi. We liked the citrus drink with a piece of grapefruit in it. Very special setting, near the Yellow Pumpkin. We ate here before catching the bus back to the port....

One of the food stores near the east gate and across from the yellow pumpkin . They have a lovely electronic system which has English and a simple but good menu of 4 sets.

I had the karaage set which was well prepared and tasted both tasty and homely . Finished everything on the plate and was satisfied .
