The location was very convenient to the castle and a very easy walk - that was about it though. Very much redeemed by the fact that the front door opens to a subway station access. The staff were polite and friendly, but didn’t understand enough English to be able to help us with a question/issue with the air conditioning.|| · We have been living in Japan for awhile and stayed at 4 or 5 APA hotels around the country. It’s a great chain and we have come to expect a certain standard associated with the brand that this site sadly fell short of. - Every APA we have stayed at has made the small gesture of leaving two bottles of water in the room - not this one! At the end of a long day, it was a nice touch to come back to. At this hotel, they had this joke of a system that was almost insulting considering the price to stay there - if you don’t require your towels to be changed (which there are only 2 very small given), they’ll leave you ONE bottle of water. Even if there are two people in the room. We only got water a couple of days and it seemed random since we were hanging them up to repeat use. - The hotel was clean, but clearly dated... even down to the fact that there were papers and hotel documents that were dusty and yellowed with age. The desk drawer had a piece of tape holding it shut or it would just slide open! - The air conditioning unit didn’t work past the first night and the room got stifling as the only functions were heat and “fan” (which just circulated stuffy air) - thankfully it was November and very cool outside and the windows weren’t bolted so we could open them to get cold air inside to make it comfortable enough to sleep. - The room was smaller than most I’ve seen in Japan and the layout made it a tight squeeze for two 6 foot tall adults to maneuver around each other. - There were only two extremely flat pillows on the bed with a duvet that really only covered one of us. Thankfully my husband was hot enough to not need it. The mattress was very firm which is not uncommon in Japan, but one of the reasons we like staying at APAs is because they all consistently have softer mattresses and good pillows (not here!). It caused a lot of back pain and difficulty sleeping for the entire trip, which sadly made some of our days a...

Read moreI once stayed in an APA hotel in Roppongi and I could testify that their double bed room barely fits two persons. You will be literally rubbing elbows and knees when you try to walk around. I wonder if this is the definition of a standard Japanese budget hotel room which is by the way not so budget friendly because our 3 nights stay cost us around 45600 yen (15200 yen/137 usd per night including breakfast). I remember when I stayed in APA roppongi it cost me far less maybe because its golden week.
