I stayed at R Namba South and unfortunately found it to be the worst hostel I’ve stayed in across all my travels — including South America, Thailand, and India. The hostel had an overwhelming smell throughout, with constant whiffs of sewage on top of the strong shoe odor. The 24-bed female dorm was extremely difficult to manage: the wooden box-style beds were uncomfortable, the space was so cramped there was no room to open a suitcase, and the air was so humid it was hard to breathe. Showers were only available on the 6th floor, which was inconvenient, and the overall cleanliness made it hard to ever feel clean — bins weren’t emptied, and there was hair everywhere. While locals described the area as “unsafe” (though nothing happened to us), the atmosphere inside felt equally unpleasant. We also couldn’t help but feel that some positive reviews may be influenced by the offer of a free drink and towel. On the positive side, the staff were friendly and welcoming, but overall this was a truly uncomfortable and...
Read moreFound many hairs and food rests in the room. When we informed staff, she wanted to see it first hand. Confirmed it was not ok and used a hair roller to clean the floor and beds.
I asked if they had a vacuum so i could vacuum it myself. She asked if i was sure because the vacuum is rather loud. I said i had no problem with the noise of a vacuum cleaner. Then she got one after some sticky rolling. She did her best to vacuum everything on the spot and apologized multiple times for the dirtyness and inconvinience. She actually ran for us. That was nice of her, but for the amount we paid, we expected more. Compared to other options in the city, am afraid it's unacceptable.
We paid 84€ = 13700¥ a night for two bunk beds and expected atleast a discount or a drink at the bar or something. We didn't get anything. We hope this place doesn't have insects after what we saw. Very disappointing experience overal. Great location however, and she was...
Read moreWe really enjoyed this hostel.
Got a private room for 4 people, it was quite small and pretty cold even with the heat on. But the futons were comfortable and the bedding was good enough that I wasn’t cold under the sheets.
The people working were very nice, and it was a decently social hostel with people always sitting in the common area whenever we came in or out.
They had a little booklet that showed you points of interest along with different food places nearby ranked with taste and price which was really nice to look through and help decide where to eat.
We only stayed one night but don’t have much to complain about other than the size and temperature...
