Pros I was looking forward to use the Sky Spa (Onsen) but it fell below my expectations. The Onsen was very clean and well maintained and I enjoyed using the open air bath. They allowed to store my luggage before and after check in which I appreciate. I had to walk past several bars to reach the hotel but it did not feel unsafe. I walked 10 mins to Daichi Hotel to take the Limousine Bus to Narita Airport. Cons The amenities in the Onsen were rather basic. I am not sure if hot spring water or merely hot water was used. The rooms were on level 2 to 10, the reception was located on level 11 and the Onsen was located on level 12. The staffs were stoic, lacking in warmth. I regretted booking the Corner Twin Room. The door entered directly to the toilet and the bed was located very close to the door/toilet. It was difficult to tug my luggage. They could not provide me with another luggage stand. Even though there a full glass window which made the room bright and nice, having it was no good use. The rooms were on level 2 to 10, and it looked out to a small but busy room and also the next building. Due to privacy, I could not draw open the curtain. My friends who stayed at the regular twin room had a much better room and bed layout. I also find the corridor very narrow and dim.

Horrible Customer service. Especially one of the Japanese young customer service officer. Ask for a late check out due to having a small 1year old. Young officer say yes can up till 2pm. Went up back to room after breakfast and the reception with their officers all around. No communication given. 12noon officer called my room say I need to check out or charges would be incurred. Only then they say I need to pay for my extension. Told them I not agreeable as I had already ask them in the morning and was not informed or advise that there will be extra charges. They wrote in to booking and charge me 2000plus yen for an extra hours. say I did not obliged to their policy. Think it's horrible. Any extra charges should be inform during check in and during any enquires at the reception not when they seem fit. Think the management from candeo should buck up the customer service training and English lesson for their Japanese staff. Won't recommend my counter parts to stay there ESP if they have kids. The management are not exactly friendly in anyways. No early or late check out for small kids. Those can afford probably should explore other establishment

Let's get the good out of the way, shall we. I think the overall aesthetic of this hotel is great. It's super modern and has a great, clean, look to it. The mattress is on the firm side, which I personally prefer. The staff have always been incredibly friendly as well. I like the fact that, upon checkout, you can just toss your card key into a box and that's it. You're done. Room service is really efficient and they're always nice. I like that they always stock you up with bottled water each time they clean your room. I DO however, think it would better serve the staff if you just had a checklist of things you needed changed/cleaned each time. They gave me so many free toothbrush/toothpaste packs that I could open an online shop to offload them. The spa is super relaxing and really, like most of the hotel, aesthetically pleasing. It's a great way to unwind after running through the city all day and just a lovely feature provided to all guests. It's also nice to have access to laundry, especially during the hot and humid days of a Japanese summer. ||||Now, let's talk about what I didn't like. I have booked stays at this place before and they've always charged me for the room, yet this time, they charged me for the number of guests (2 btw) upon check-in, and that was an unpleasant surprise. What was I gonna say? No...I think we'll sleep on the street? Full disclosure, I have stayed here pre-covid, so maybe their policies changed since I was last here in 2018. My advice is to double-check that all of yours guests are included with your price to avoid this sort've mix up. Most likely my fault for not reading the fine print, but still, not something you want you want to deal with after hours of travel. ||||I had the King-size bed this time, whereas before, I had the Twin. Keep in mind, the only thing changing is the size of the bed, NOT the room size. This was a bit of a surprise because, as you may know, small is par for the course in Japan...it's expected. However, the King-size bed took up a ton of the already precious square footage, and made a small room a cramped one. Quite frankly, it was too much bed for my gf and I. The Twin would have sufficed, but alas, hindsight and something I could have probably found out beforehand if I were more proactive. Being there in July, the heat and humidity are substantial and for some reason, we didn't have a window we could open in the room. However, my brother, staying in a different room, could open his. I personally feel this is important, especially during summer, for the sake of fresh air. Otherwise, you're left breathing in recycled air-conditioner air (super loud and squeaky btw), which you know is not ideal. If this is a important for you, clarify with the hotel beforehand if your room has a window you can open. ||||The bathroom is incredibly cramped. Your elbow will most likely rub against the sink as you're sitting, doing your business. I know everything is smaller in Japan, but this is cramped more than just small and you have been warned. Also, while we're talking bathrooms, the toilet tissue they provide is like 1/2 ply. I mean, it's transparent. I assume this is a cost-cutting measure, possibly an attempt at being eco-friendly, but I feel like it defeats the purpose of both when you have to use three-times as much toilet tissue for the result some decent two-ply would provide.||||Now, let's talk about some things that I found a bit annoying, but may not be a big deal for some travelers. The elevators in the hotel are insanely slow. There are two of them, and you'll still sit there wondering what is taking so long...every...time. If you're unlucky enough to have your room directly across from the elevator (like I was), well, you'll hear every single conversation that takes place as the other guests chat while waiting forever for the elevator. The TV's in the rooms are a great size, but there is literally 1 international channel. That's a big head-scratcher for me as, presumably, most of the clientele is non-Japanese. No, you're not traveling just to watch TV, but after a long day exploring, it would be nice to put your feet up, relax and watch some TV. At the very least, streaming options should be standard in 2023. Being able to view Youtube, Netflix, etc. on the TV should be there. ||||I've seen some reviews saying the location is great, and it both is and isn't. It's great in that it's in close proximity to Shimbashi station (5 minute walk, tops), which is a great station in that it's connected to all the major lines and you can get to pretty much any location of interest from there. However, the area itself that the hotel is in, isn't great. It's pretty boring during the day, with just restaurants and convenience stores and at night, it's borderline sketchy. When the sun goes down, the streets are lined with bar and restaurant workers hustling to get you into their establishments. Also, a lot of half-naked young ladies accosting people to get them into their hostess bars. You're really running a gauntlet of aggressive sales-tactics. The foot-traffic is mainly drunk businessmen doing the nightly pub-crawl, so unless that's your scene/idea of a good time, I'd look elsewhere. Certainly not a 'family-friendly' locale after-hours. That being said, it could be fine for one or two nights, but a week-long stay just isn't ideal imo.||||Alright, thanks for reading my long-winded, but ultimately thorough review of the Candeo Hotel Shimbashi. I hope it helps you in your decision making when you...

We stayed at Candeo Hotels in Shimbashi for a week and had a good overall experience. We were travelling with a toddler so we wanted to find a larger sized room. They had an option of two twins put together to make a king so that is what we went with. The room itself was quite small but I think that is the case with most hotels in such a dense city like Tokyo. It had everything we needed, a mink bar fridge, a desk and chair and a 3 piece washroom complete with the toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, body wash etc. The service was good. You had the option of putting a “make my room” card out if you wanted them to clean and do up your room. We didn’t end up using it but they still come in to replace your towels, replenish the bottled water and take out the garbage every day so that was great! It’s a no frills type of hotel, not too fancy, but clean and all you need. We didn’t spend much time in the hotel itself because we had packed days exploring the amazing city.

The location was handy being a 5-7min walk from Shimbashi station. We also walked to Ginza one day and that took about 20min. Shimbashi is full of amazing restaurants so that is a huge plus. The only thing to keep in mind with the area is the night life is pretty prevalent. It is known as the salarymen hub, where many businessmen come after work to have dinner with friends, coworkers etc. At night it has a little bit of that red light district vibe but of course not as much as Shinjuku. It still feels safe but that is something to keep in mind if you’re travelling with kids.

Overall, great spot! Tokyo is such an amazing city, you probably can’t go wrong with...
