While I was searching for a budget hotel, Toyoko Inn Aomonoyokocho popped up. I was hesitant in booking this hotel initially due to the lack of reviews. I realized that this is probably due to the fact that this hotel is far away from the popular tourist locations like Shinjuku, Shibuya. ||||This hotel is right under Aomono yokocho station, station 04 of Keikyu Line, which is a 3 min stop from Shinagawa Station. Despite its proximity to the station, I did not hear any noises generated from the trains. The best part is that this hotel is only 15 mins away from Haneda Airport. ||||The room is incredibly small and you won't have space to open your luggage on the floor, whether you are carrying a small or big luggage. The luggage has to be opened on the bed. Being in Tokyo, this does not surprise me at all. Despite this, you can still find a bath tub in the bathroom. Japanese love their bath tubs! The room is well equipped. Due to a lack of rooms, I had no choice but to book a smoking room. Upon initial entry into the room, the room did smell bad. But as I turned the heater on, the smell gradually got better. ||||The hotel provides a modest breakfast fare every morning from 7am to 930am in the lobby. Due to limited seats, it can get quite busy during peak periods. ||||I certainly enjoyed my stay here and for the price of USD 75 a night, I would highly recommend this no...
Read moreAs mentioned by many reviewers, this branch at Aomono-yokocho Station was just like the first one at Korakuen where we put up at prior to this. The location was superb, right underneath the subway station plus various restaurants were located nearby, including KFC, Saizeriya, McDonalds and Mister Donut.||||Rooms were a little small but the space was adequate. Although there was a notice encouraging us to store our luggages underneath the bed, we did not and it didnt hinder us at all.||||The toilet was excellent too. Although you cant lock the toilet, I dont think it really matters. On a slightly separate note, I noticed how clean the toilets in our room and the lobby was! They really do a very good job with cleaning the whole place up.||||Toyoko Inn gives you exactly what you need and nothing else. Plus they throw in a very simple, yet tasty breakfast too! ||||It was really nice that they had free wi-fi in the rooms and three laptops available for use in the lobby. You really cant ask for more at this price point. ||||I would definitely be staying at Toyoko Inns in my future trips to Japan. Highly...
Read moreThis Toyoko Inn is not new, but the interior of my small room seems to have been updated recently. There is only one elevator, but they unlock an adjacent stairwell (normally reserved for emergency evacuation) during breakfast hours. Breakfast here is mid-range among what I have seen at other Toyoko Inns.
The three merits of Toyoko Inn Shinagawa Aomonoyokocho are location, location, location. It is attached to the Keikyuu (京急) line Aomonoyokocho Station (青物横丁駅). Well, one walks out of the hotel and makes a sharp U-turn to enter the station, but this can be done without getting rained on (unless, perhaps, the wind is exceptionally strong).
Moreover, this Toyoko Inn is close to many eating and drinking establishments -- mostly small, one-of-a-kind treasures, but there are a few chain restaurants nearby as well. Around the corner, there is also a neighborhood grocery store called OK (オーケー) that is much better than OK. On a night I didn't feel like eating out, a quick trip to OK allowed me to put together a light meal that I ate in the room. ...
