Yanaka Sow — Hotel in Tokyo

Lovely place surrounded by lots of temples! Loved the Balmuda oven toaster and full-set kitchen. And the ambiance at the front gate with willow tree and pebbles in little garden, Tatami Koagari was perfectly beautiful! coffee and green tea at the lobby are also high quality. One reason that I remove one star is cleaning! if you stay longer please consider! We stayed here for 5days but no one empty the trash bin in the room and change towels. I wish they could clean up at least every 2days. Also the air conditioner was super dusty. I could even smell some fungus like an old house smell..! Air circulation was not really good. My wife and I stayed here for 10 total nights. We made an error in one booking and had to stay somewhere else for one night, but they were very accommodating and let us store our extra luggage on site. Check in was easy. You get a code to use on a touch screen, which then provides you room number and code to enter the hotel lobby and room. We stayed in 2 different room types during our stay. One was a smaller twin and one was a deluxe twin that had more floor space. The room have tatami floors, so they don’t want you to wear shoes in the rooms. Slippers are provided in the room. ‏I would NOT recommend Yanaka Sow!! ‏I’ve been to Japan more than 5 times and by far that was the worst experience I’ve ever had.

‏The property is surrounded by cemeteries on all sides ( 360 !!) , which was not mentioned in the listing. It felt very unsafe. There are no staff on-site, and the nearest convenience store is a 10-minute walk through the cemeteries.

‏We booked for 9 nights but couldn’t even stay for one due to the unsettling atmosphere, hearing footsteps on the upper floor ( we were on the top floor), knocking at night and the motion sensors turns on at night.

‏Four days later, there has been no response or refund despite contacting the property.

‏I really don’t think they want returning customers, they just want to scam you with the price so you’d book for long period but they know you’d get out after a day.

( 4 months update: they still did not refund me back my money )
