My favorite place to wrap up another day of fun and discovery in Yanaka!
First founded in 1274, Tennoji is the oldest of the many temples in Tokyo’s popular Yanaka area, situated between the adjacent Yanaka Cemetery and the busy JR Nippori Station.
Though quite old, this temple of the Tendai Buddhist sect bears surprisingly modern architectural elements surrounding the large bronze Buddha originally crafted by Ota Kyuemon in 1690.
For those planning to end their day in Yanaka at Nippori Station, Tennoji is the perfect bookend to this unique...

Tennoji Temple, which evokes the good old days of Tokyo, is one of the most worthwhile temples to visit during the Yanakabashi Seven Lucky Gods Tour. It enshrines Bishamonten, who is said to bestow ten kinds of blessings on those who pray to him. This temple, which has been in existence since the Kamakura period (1185-1333), is also known as Edo San-Tomi and attracts many worshippers. The site of the five-story pagoda, which remains in Yanaka Cemetery, is a particularly special place where visitors can feel the history of the temple.
What impressed me was the Daibutsu (Great Buddha) and the very neat and clean temple.

The area is especially crowded with visitors to collect red seals for the New Year, allowing visitors to experience the traditions and...
