My partner and I stayed here for 6 nights at one of their double futon rooms. The owners speak English and were extremely helpful. Upon arrival, they gave us a little run-down of key areas in the neighbourhood using a map, including closest train and subway stations and popular places to go. There’s a storage area in the lobby where you can ask them to hold your luggage for you, we used this after we checked out as we had an evening flight and just came back for our luggage when we were ready to leave for the airport.||||The room is very clean and my partner and I found it to be of a comfortable size, though we’re not particularly big people so I can understand if most find it to be a bit on the smaller side. There is a fridge but no microwave and there is a coin laundry service available for a few dollars per load. ||||The best thing about the ryokan though is undoubtedly its location. Nippori train station is about a 10-minute walk away, less if you walk at a reasonable pace. From there you can take a Keisei Skyliner train express to Narita Airport (takes about 45 mins). It’s also on the Yamanote Line which is the major train line that runs through most of the popular neighbourhoods and train stations around Tokyo city, including Ueno, Akihabara, Ikebukuro, Shibuya, Harajuku and Shinjuku. There are at least 3 convenience stores in the surrounding area, as well as Yanaka-Ginza which is an old street lined with interesting little boutiques, street vendor shops and cafes.||||If you’re feeling lazy, Sendagi subway station is pracically across the street. My partner and I rode through here every day to Ochanomizu train station 3 stops away, which also connects to most of the major train lines. The whole trip from the ryokan took all of 10 minutes as well.||||Overall, very happy with our stay and would book this ryokan again any time I’m...
Read moreWe stayed at Katsutaro Annex Ryokan in Yanaka Ginza,Tokio, for about a week. The room we booked was about to fit in three people. It was really spacious - but we where out for sightseeing for the most time. Every inch of the room was very clean and decorated with traditional tatami mats, a little desk and an AC. The bathroom was also very clean. You can have a shower or go for a little bath. There was everything you might need: a hair dryer, a little mirror and some toothbrushes. On the table was a little selection of tea, coffee and sugar. (There was an electric kettle as well -- so you can make a tea/coffee on your own). At the front office you can grab some more coffee or single – use razors if you need to for free. There was also a possibility to wash and dry your clothes. The owner offers you detergent for free. To wash your cloth, you have to put 200Yen into the washing mashine, as well for the tumble dryer. The owner couple was very nice and lovely, you really felt like it was your home there. The Ryokan offers a little breakfast wich you have to order a day before in advance. You can chosse between a 'cooked breakfast' (also a vegetarian option) and a 'non-cooked' breakfast for about 800-1200Yen. This includes toast, multiple jam, coffee and tea (+ eggs/bacon or sausage if you have the cooked one). Right in the front of the Ryokan you have a convenience store and about 200 meters to the left a little supermarket. The Ryokan is located next to Yanaka ginza - a very nice little shopping street. There are little shops, mainly run by elderly people. You have the possibility to meet up with the locals. We really enjoyed the stay here and will definetely come back! Big recommendation...
Read moreI absolutely adore staying at Annex Katsutaro Ryokan! During my trips to Japan with both my family and on my own, this ryokan has become my go-to choice.
The owners of Annex Katsutaro Ryokan are simply delightful and incredibly hospitable. The owners both speak English. They possess an extensive knowledge of Tokyo and are always ready to provide valuable recommendations for exploring the city efficiently.
The ryokan rooms are clean, peaceful, and equipped with all the essential amenities for a comfortable stay. The rooms all have futons on tatami mats which create a cozy and authentic experience that perfectly suits my travel needs. Additionally, there’s an option to book your room with a Western style breakfast which I always enjoy.
What truly sets this ryokan apart is its location. Situated near the JR Yamanote line (Nippori Station) and the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda line (Sendagi Station), it offers convenient access to various areas of Tokyo. Additionally, the proximity to Keisei Nippori Station allows for quick transportation to Narita Airport via the Keisei Skyliner.
Another aspect I adore about Annex Katsutaro Ryokan is its charming location in Yanaka. Nestled away from the bustling Tokyo neighborhoods, it provides a serene and tranquil atmosphere to come home to while also remaining within reach of Tokyo's diverse attractions. Additionally, there are also great food options nearby.
