We stayed here for 3 nights in late October (a bit too early for red leaves but the weather is just perfect for outdoor onsen, not too cold).||We are very impressed by the hospitality. The host lady is probably the best english-speaking local Japanese I have ever met in Japan. All the staff is friendly and helpful.||The place is very beautifully decorated, with much attention to details. It may not be the luxurious kind of ryokan but it definitely offers you a super relaxing and comfortable home experience in traditional Japanese style. The ryokan has 5 rooms only, we rarely see other guests so we feel very quiet and private here.||Although our room is not the biggest in our ryokans experience, it is surely spacious enough for the two of us. It has an entrance area, a living room, a tatami bedroom, a toilet room and an outdoor area with a rock onsen and a shower. Our bedroom and outdoor area have the best view facing the Yufuin Mountain.||Location wise, perfect if you don’t have a car. It is just 10-min walk from the train station and 4-min walk to the famous “b-speak” cake shop in the main shopping street. There is also a large supermarket (close at 8pm) right in front of the ryokan where we bought sushi and drinks for our late night snacks. Parking is also available if you drive.||Towels and other basic essentials you need are provided and changed daily. Clean and tidy. No food is provided in the ryokan but there are some restaurants (including some really delicious dinner options) within walking distance. We tried Fukusuke (ramen) and Yufu Mabushi (the station branch) (rice pot) and they are both good and worth trying. It may even be better than having similar ryokan meal everyday.||Will definitely recommend Yurari Rokumyo for your...

Read moreWe stayed here on 10 oct 2013 after checking out from Yadoya. Yadoya was nice and secluded and great to stay 1 night, but we wanted somewhere located within walking distance from the town centre and also without meals so we could enjoy the food around the area.||Rokumyo is located at the back of a huge carpark and there is a diner "Joyfull" located out front which serves very reasonably priced diner food.||We reached around noon to dump our stuff so we could explore the town and checkin at a later timing. The female owner speaks perfect English and could recommend sights to see and places to eat.||The room was very nice. Compared to my stay at yadoya the night before, this was a fraction of the price but of course it didn't come with any meals. The room is Japanese style, so sleep is on a futon on the floor. There was a bed section, a small kitchenette, a living area and an outdoor bath.||The nightlight is truly the outdoor bath. It was huge. 4 could fit comfortably and the water was really nice and hot.||I am not used to sleeping on a futon, so I didn't really have a good nights sleep, but the outdoor onsen more than made up for it.||I would recommend this place as for this price to get an attached private outdoor bath is a steal. And it was a fantastic bath too. Other perks would be its central location, not having meals mean that you get to try the fantastic cuisine the town has to offer. The owner speaks perfect English, so...
