The location of Lang Hoose is very strategic if you are a tourist and want to walk and savour the local food around the heritage area of Georgetown. Parking is a bit of a challenge during office hours but in the evenings, it is easy to park close to the guest house. The housekeepers are unassuming but cordial. We booked the attic room that sleeps 4 but had an extra visitor on Day 2 of our 4 night stay. As the attic room comes with a small living area with a long day bed, we asked if it was okay for a 5th person to bunk in. They were accommodating but could not offer an extra towel nor pillows even though we were happy to pay for it. Both the lower living area and the sleeping area in the attic came with good ACs and fans. The beds were adequate but not great. The only area that needs to be addressed is the shower which you need to perform in a pretty but impractical claw foot bathtub. There wasn't a shower curtain and even if there was, it will not be practical around the narrow bathtub. No matter how careful you are, chances are you will wet the area outside the bathtub leaving the area around the toilet bowl wet. In my humble opinion, the owner should remove the bathtub and install a simple shower base with a curtain around it. There is a roof garden with so much potential but it needs more plants and a fan to make it a lovely place to dine and have a drink. I understand from the housekeepers that the guesthouse is still in a work in progress stage and i believe it will be a much nicer place as we already saw some aesthetic work being carried out while we were there. The kitchen area offers free coffee, tea and water. Apart from a microwave and ovenette, there are also plenty of dinnerware to satisfy visitors want to bring back food to reheat and eat in the comfortable sitting area near reception. Overall, the place is clean, well located , graeif you bring food back and...
Read moreHonest review- I planned to stay 3-4 nights. Charming old mansion with ~9 rooms converted into a "chic" hotel, pleasant staff ("Guchi" & Jess are extremely helpful), clean, good location, comfortable rooms, etc. but l left after 1 night after staying in a "delux" street facing room. There is a new techno bar literally across the street "blasting" music until 2am (every night I am told) which will make sleep difficult for those with either of the 2 street facing rooms (2nd & 3rd floor). There are 2 corridors of rooms (4 rooms/corridor). One corridor (set of 4 rooms) is near the front of hotel & techno bar (avoid this corridor if possible). The second corridor (set of "family" rooms) is in the middle of the mansion. And, there is a small single room ground level (only 1 room on ground level I think) next to the fish tank, which makes a "soothing" noise (to me) of a "hard rainfall" (no outside window in this room). The "family" rooms in the second corridor (near the back) are away from the street & seem quiet. PS- I expected noise as this is a very old mansion with no insulation. Small rugs in the rooms might help with noise from other tenants walking on wood above? What I didn't expect was a techno bar "blasting" music til 2am. There is a small roof terrace in the back of hotel. Tip- get a room in the back corridor ("family" room) away from street & you'll be fine. I would give 5 stars if not for the...
Read moreA 100 year old antique style building had been converted into a hotel. The best thing about the hotel is the location. It's right in the middle of Georgetown heritage precinct, close to Unesco Heritage street art. Walking distance to multitude of amazing restaurants and even some tourist attractions like the Top.
The rooms are big. The shower area is very big. The beds are comfortable. We were given the duplex suite for 3 people with 3 beds. The duplex while spacious could be a mild inconvenience of you need to use the bathroom at night as one needs to climb down the stairs. Lights are not sufficient and could be improved.
While the staff is friendly and the manager even helped with all our requests, one of the minor issues we ran into was that we had asked for some toiletries that took a few hours to be arranged. Could be improvement
There is no breakfast except for some tea, coffee and bread. But given that it's located next to good restaurants it's not required.
Overall a good place to stay and value for money given...
