I would have given this 5 stars because of the price to value ratio but I could not because of certain things they still to improve in order meet the 5 star level.
Good stuff first. For the cost of this room, value is fantastic. Location is good, very near Plaza Pelangi and walkable to KSL. Rooms are clean and the bedsheets plus towels are also clean. There's quite a lot of space if you choose the rooms with the ensuite bathroom. They do provide shower foam and shampoo and 2 toothbrushes but it's obviously the no brand type . There's also a kettle and 2 cups provided. For a no frills stay, this is really 1 of the good ones.
Now for the bad. Like what everyone says, you definitely need data to check in. No matter what platform you purchased the rooms from, you'll have to contact them via WhatsApp to get your pin codes. There are 3 codes, 1 for the main door, 1 to get to the rooms with ensuite toilet and another for your own room. The funny thing is the section of the rooms with the ensuite toilets does not have a common area with a fridge unlike the section with the common toilets. This is weird because the ensuite toilets costs more but yet you won't have a fridge to put your stuff in or to chill out with your friends. I guess this will cut down the noise somewhat if you stay in the section with the ensuite toilets because the walls are very thin. I was fortunate to get a rear facing room but I had a friend whose room faced main road and it was noisy. Some rooms didn't even have a window. The other con is they'll ask for a deposit, S$16 per room. For those Singaporeans, you have to PayNow to a Malaysian number. Not many apps allow you to do that. GPay doesn't and neither does ocbc. If you can't change the country code in your banking app, ask them to send you the QR, that works. The refund process takes quite long. I got mine after 6 hours even though they said the refund will be processed in 4 hours after check out. They really need to improve the deposit refund process. People don't like to wait so long for the refund to be done. Or at least be upfront to say refunds will be done in 6 hours instead of 4. I really don't know what will happen if the guests are not from SG,how will they do the deposit payment then? And will the refund take days to happen ?
Overall I'd say it was a good experience and I might certainly return to...
Read moreHaving recently explored the vibrant city of Johor Bahru, I stumbled upon a hidden gem – Maco Inn Century. This homestay ticked all the right boxes for a comfortable and convenient weekend getaway.
The strategic location in the city center was fantastic. Within walking distance, I found a delightful array of restaurants and eateries, making it easy to grab a delicious meal or a quick bite. For those seeking retail therapy, Plaza Pelangi mall was just a stone's throw away. Groceries and other necessities were readily available at nearby mini-markets, further enhancing the convenience factor.
Finding the homestay was a breeze thanks to its proximity to a pedestrian crossbridge. It's clear the owners have put thought into accessibility for guests.
The room itself was clean and comfortable, perfectly suitable for a short stay or weekend escape. The two bathrooms were a pleasant surprise, offering extra convenience. While one bathroom had a mirror, the smaller one lacked one – a minor detail that could be easily addressed.
The shared common area offered a fridge, a dining table, a water dispenser, and even ironing facilities. These amenities proved to be incredibly useful during my stay. An interesting touch was the request to remove shoes within the homestay, which helped maintain a clean and comfortable environment.
A point to note is that the homestay requires a deposit before check-in. However, this deposit is fully refundable upon check-out, provided the room remains in good condition. The owner, who communicated via WhatsApp, was very responsive and helpful, addressing any queries I had promptly and efficiently.
Overall, Maco Inn Century @ Johor Bahru provided a comfortable and convenient base for exploring the city. The clean rooms, strategic location, and helpful owner made for a pleasant stay. While a minor detail like a mirror in the smaller bathroom could be improved, the overall experience was positive and perfect for budget-conscious travelers seeking a comfortable haven in the heart of...
Read moreIt’s a liveable place for the price point. It is a self check-in process but I think it can be a little more efficient in doing so. We came from another hotel in another day which is also self check-in so this pale in compassion 100x.
As people usually do online booking, the instructions could have been delivered earlier through email or message on those booking platforms. It’s quite ridiculous to have people standing outside the inn to try to pay the deposit and do the administrative checking in on our own, especially when all we want is to go to the room after a tiring day instead.
For the price, might be easier to book other inn/hotel/motel with counter staff to settle the admin matters. I can’t imagine how it will be like for people without any data trying to sort this out
While they expect the deposit to be paid immediately on the spot, the refund of the deposit took almost the whole day and we have to...
