Stayed here with friends. Chose this place cause it’s affordable but u cannot pay me to stay here again.
When we checked in and got to our rooms, the door wouldn’t open. Went down to the reception to inform them. They told us to go back up and try again as if that would change anything. Obviously no surprise it didn’t work. So we went down to tell them that and they said they will send maintenance up to check. We waited 20 mins outside the door carrying our heavy bags and no one showed up. So we had to go down a THIRD time to inform them. Finally someone showed up. Told us the door lock has no more battery so they switched our rooms. (I think this happens often cause the family next to us was also locked out and was trying to get into their room. Trauma bonding with strangers am I right)
The first thing that hit us when we entered the room was the SMELL. it was musty. I wont be surprised if we were the first occupants in the room in like 5 years.
The toilet looks like a set from a horror movie. The bathtub looks like they filmed the grudge there. There were random brown and red stains. Not kidding I took the quickest shower of my life.
The sheets aren’t clean. The towels are no longer white. They are GREY. there are random leaking stains on the ceiling, random stains on the carpets.
Best part? At 9am the next day the power to our room CUT OFF. No aircon no lights nothing. Couldn’t even charge our phone. From our experience with the staff we didn’t even bother to contact the help desk cause everything moves super slowly here. We had to use our phone flashlight to use the super scary toilet to get ready LOL
I get that this hotel is old. But there was no effort in upkeep or maintaining of the place to at least make it habitable. Old musty aircon, they can use air freshener. If the sheets and towels are dirty and old, at least replace them with new ones lah…..
The only pro of this place is the satay and ramly burger opposite the hotel. Food slaps but the hotel man…… this place is straight up giving me backroom...
Read moreAircon wasn't as cold as we would have liked it to be. Even when we switch it on the whole day it wasn't that cold unless you stood directly below the Aircon. Towel rack broke even though we didn't put anything heavy on it. There was literally only 1 towel on it. For some reason there was some construction going on which woke me up at 8.57am on a Saturday. We were not informed upon check-in that there would be some construction noise etc. Btw it went on the whole day - even when I wanted to nap with my daughter at 12pm, 1pm and 2pm it was still ongoing despite me hoping they would've been on lunch break (am aware it's fasting month but doesn't mean they don't deserve a break). We went out and came back at 5pm, still ongoing! Also continued onto Sunday. Isn't the usual (common sense) practice to have such noisy constructions on weekdays when there won't be as much hotel guests? Originally booked this hotel because I managed to WhatsApp them to arrange for my sahur food to be delivered to my room, because I have a toddler and I didn't want to wake her up by bringing her down for sahur at 4.30am. I asked first if they could do it, they checked and said can. If they said they couldn't then that would've been the end of it, not like I can force them to offer such a service if they are unable to do it. They told me can, so I went ahead to book and they told me to update room number upon check-in so they can take note. However during check-in when I asked about it, they said they can't do it because they don't have enough staff to come up and bring food to my room. They said my husband can take food and bring it up for me. I tried texting the same number to update on my room number but no reply, just blue tick. I thought ok maybe benefit of doubt, I checked in at 11pm so maybe they didn't have enough time to pre-empt the staff with my room number etc. But 2nd day sahur was the same and they didn't bother to reply my text after I updated my...

My recent stay at the New York Hotel Johor Bahru was, for the most part, absolutely fantastic! From the moment I arrived, the hotel impressed across almost all fronts, making it a strong contender for anyone visiting the city.
The staff truly shone, earning a perfect 5/5. Every interaction was met with warmth and efficiency, from check-in to any queries I had during my stay. Their genuine helpfulness significantly enhanced my experience.
My room was another highlight, deserving of its 5/5 rating. It was spotless, spacious, and incredibly comfortable, providing a perfect sanctuary after a day of exploring. I had no complaints whatsoever regarding the amenities and overall comfort. The ambiance throughout the hotel also contributed to a very pleasant stay, feeling welcoming and well-maintained.
The hotel's location is undeniably a major asset, scoring a well-deserved 5/5. Its proximity to key areas made navigating Johor Bahru incredibly convenient, whether for business or leisure. And when it came to dining, the food at the hotel was exceptional, also receiving a perfect 5/5. The variety and quality of the offerings were superb.
A Small Inconvenience The only minor hiccup during my stay, and the reason for a lower service rating (2/5), was the lack of an in-room iron. While an iron was available, it was located in the hallway, which proved quite inconvenient. For a hotel of this caliber, having an iron readily accessible within the room would significantly improve the overall guest experience and be a much-appreciated amenity.
Overall Impression Despite the small issue with the iron, the New York Hotel Johor Bahru is a highly recommendable establishment. Its excellent staff, comfortable rooms, superb food, and prime location make it a standout choice. With the addition of in-room irons, it would truly be a...
