Hotel Samila — Hotel in Kedah

Early 2024:

Superb location, walking distance to all the major attractions - historic buildings, Alor Setar tower, Aman Sentral mall, convenience stalls, mini malls and chinatown food street. Service at lobby was good. Can opt for self service check-in kiosk too. Room was clean, large and modern as it was recently renovated. Own parking lot. Full amenities. But need to purchase toiletries if want to. Towels, kettle, coffee, cups, tissues, drinking water dispenser, hot shower, strong water pressure, ironing facilities, fridge, hair dryer, elevator, complimentary bottled drinking water.

Update Dec 2024:

This is probably my 4th time staying here... My past 2 stays - no greetings from staff at the counter when I stepped in. They were busy looking at the phone or computer. One man and one woman. Did my check-in and check out via the kiosk. Check out time the staff also head down. Never say thank you, etc. Only one lady in tudung standing behind the counter said good morning when I checked out, but the other lady just looked down like so busy working no time to take 5 seconds to interact with paying customers!...

Sufficient parking space throughout our stay which is very important. No breakfast and the Cafe downstairs only opens at 9 am. But since one is in town, there are plenty of places to eat.

The room : Spacious. Bed is very firm. Latex pillows are firm & give me a back ache. The chair is built for dwarfs. I was concern it might collapse but thankfully it didn't. It does hurt the butt though.

Bathroom: Instant electric heater. Not a big fan as they are not hot enough for my liking. Soap dispenser for body and hair all in one. Toilet paper is under the basin. Need to reach out. IMO, they should fixed the arm the other way around because the roll will be pulled out of holder every time. Need design thinking.

Noise: If the room faces the main road, traffic noise can be loud but since there is no night life, it's fine.

Water cooler available outside the room on level 1. Very convenient.

Smoke: We asked for no smoking room but there is an ash tray in the room. Why??? At night, people will smoke at the lobby (right opposite the no smoking sign, LOL) and smell of cigarette smoke is...

The hotel is clean although it is not that new. Toilet does not smell at all. Towels are a bit yellowish and rough. Aircon is cold, room is bright when all lights are switched on. Room has 1 small bar soup for handwash, but the slimey green shower gel looks horrible. Has a kettle, 1 sachet of Kopi-o, 1 Chinese tea sachet, 2 tea cups with spoons. There is a fridge too. The hairdryer gets hot very easily and shuts down itself. I am super pissed with the male reception working on 21 Feb night. Tried calling reception at least 5 times to feedback the noisy guests at 412, jumping and running. He kept on saying he was busy and alone, and asked me to call back. He didn't solve our problem but a security staff. Should have stayed at Frazel Heritage Hotel...
