Ambong Rainforest Retreat — Hotel in Langkawi Island

Ambong Ambong has set a new standard for what to expect from a hotel stay for us. This has become the benchmark for service and experience that all other hotels in the future will need to meet. All things considered, we would without doubt, happily stay at Ambong Ambong again, and recommend all our friends and family planning on visiting Langkawi do so too. On arrival, we felt instantly relaxed and settled, while we only had a short flight from Singapore and easy taxi journey to Ambong Ambong, travelling is still a stressful experience, so to arrive and feel so quickly at ease was wonderful. Unlike checking in at other hotels, we were given lots of great advice from Andy in the front of house team, including details of where things are on the island, recommendations of where to go, and he was keen to understand what we wanted out of our stay and was just such a welcoming host. The hotel provides you with a mobile phone which can be used to contact the hotel and the drivers, who are more than happy to take you within a certain radius of the hotel, this is invaluable due to Ambong Ambong's situation on the hillside, but also a complete delight as the drivers were just amazing. Always so happy to chat and talk about where to go and what to do, always interested in what we are up to, and happy to help with restaurant reservations etc. We were taken up to our room by two other members of staff, who were equally warm and friendly, interested to know more about us and our stay in Langkawi. Again, unlike other hotels, we were shown around our room properly, all the details and all the features were explained to us perfectly which meant we felt at home immediately. We were celebrating a birthday, so the hotel staff had kindly laid on some lovely little touches in the room, including a cake and balloons. Further, our friends had ordered for champagne and a spa voucher, and this was ready and waiting for us. Just so well executed. On our first evening we were invited to a cocktail reception at the Ambong Pool Villas which are about 200m down the road. A driver picked us up from our room and took us straight there. The evening was hosted by the owners of Ambong Ambong, and again the levels of hospitality were second to none. We enjoyed chatting to the family, plus some of the other guests while we watched the sun setting from the on-site Rimba restaurant. We ate at the restaurant that evening which was exceptional, and again a driver happily picked us up and dropped us back to our room later that evening. Breakfast provided at the hotel is excellent. Not only did the delicious local dishes really impress us, but the western food was excellent too, the eggs benedict was perfect. The breakfast buffet was great too with a good selection of fruits, pastries and very tasty home baked bread. The thing that stands out to us the most is the people at Ambong Ambong. Anyone could open and run this hotel, but it is the people who work here who take it to the next level. From the drivers, to the restaurant staff, to the uncle singing and playing keyboard in Rimba in the evening, right up to the owners and family, everyone we met was a perfect example of hospitality in so many ways. in all my travels, have I been welcomed or taken care of as we were at Ambong Ambong. Arrive on an early flight? No problem! They'll set you up with breakfast (because of course you must be starving), they will chat to you about your travels and suggest ways you can keep entertained until checkin. They'll even speed up checkin if they can and will offer to drive you wherever you'd like to go and will give you a phone just in case you need to call them.

The hotel staff are exceptionally friendly, helpful and do their best to make your stay enjoyable. I think that this was the best hospitality team that I've ever seen with very well trained people that obviously like their jobs. Excellent services and awesome people! We were given a Nokia hp which is one of my favourite gadget to reach out to them anytime! When we were somewhere out there and our GPS is not working, we just called the ninjas to assist us to book a Grab. 5mins later the Grab driver arrived! It's so convenient! They provide complimentary drop off and pickup point at Underwater World Langkawi where there were many shopping and food outlets. All you need to do is just call the ninjas - like singing I'm only One Call Away... I'm here to Save Your Day! 😍😘. When we need some pain killer in the night while packing the final dropbag for race, half an hour later they knocked on our door and delivered! They are really a great help and awesome! They really take good care of you during your stay. Thank you to all of you. Greatly appreciate your help and effort! 😘😍 Secondly, I love the quietness, peacefulness and privacy of Ambong Ambong Rainforest Retreat! The lush tropical rainforest alive with wild life overlooking the Andaman Sea is awesome! Fantastic awesome view for a nature lover like me! I felt like I am living in the middle of forest! Even showering... Never felt so naked in the forest and I love it! 😉 The location of the hotel is very good with only a few minutes walk from the beach and restaurants and other services. Further, the hotel has complimentary on-call shuttle service to as far as Underwater world at Cenang beach. Breakfast had a decent choice of very tasty local and western food cooked on order and good coffee with great views over the rainforest and the beach.

We stayed in a rainforest studio and it was very well equipped and with the same great views from balcony. I only could've wished for a more comfortable bed and more convenient power sockets. A Serene, Impeccably Run Retreat in the Heart of the Rainforest||We recently stayed at Ambong Rainforest Retreat and had an exceptional experience from start to finish. Our villa was immaculately clean and thoughtfully maintained, with two spacious bedrooms—one with a double bed and the other with twin beds—alongside a large living and kitchenette area. The villa also had a lovely outdoor balcony, where we spent tranquil moments watching wildlife, including monkeys, geckos, and the rhythmic chorus of rainforest crickets.||Cleanliness & Comfort:|The housekeeping was excellent. Our villa was serviced daily, and we received an evening turndown as well. Everything from the bedding to the bathrooms was spotless. The air conditioning worked reliably and kept the space very comfortable throughout our stay.||Service:|The staff were consistently gracious, helpful, and efficient. Lee deserves special mention—he looked after us with warmth and care, helping us move around the resort’s hilly terrain with ease and always ready with a smile. We also want to thank Prem, who greeted us each morning at Rimba Restaurant and kindly offered suggestions for activities, even helping to arrange water sports for our son. The team at breakfast, especially the young gentlemen serving at Rimba, were also unfailingly kind and attentive, ensuring we were always well looked after.||Dining:|We had access to multiple restaurants—the Rimba restaurant, the on-site Japanese and vegan restaurants, and the rooftop bar area at Ambong Pool Villas. Breakfast, which was included in our package, was served in the serene setting of Rimba and featured fresh fruit and a choice of three different breakfast styles. We also tried the vegan breakfast on one day, which was equally enjoyable.||Wildlife & Ambience:|The natural surroundings are truly special. From the balcony, we could observe monkeys, colourful birds, and geckos, all while soaking in the calm of the rainforest. The experience felt peaceful, immersive, and a world away from daily life.||Transport & Location:|Although the resort is set on a hillside, getting around was made easy with the efficient buggy service.
