I had the pleasure of staying at the Grand Darul Makmur Hotel, and I must say, it was a truly remarkable experience. From the moment I stepped into the hotel, I was impressed by its numerous outstanding features.

Friend and I had to urgently be in Kuantan. Chose this hotel as there were news articles stating this hotel is run by MUIP and profits are donated to the poor and needy. On these notes, we believed the hotel would indeed be clean and sanitary, especially during Covid 19 period. Best that we could play a small part in doing good.

Upon a fuss free check in we were given a room on a floor that was being renovated. My friend has severe sinutis and thick construction dust was noticed from the elevators up to our room. It definitely looked updated but a varnish like odour even got to me and the dust was obvious in the room which has half thick carpeting. We requested a room change and was promptly moved to a floor above - Appreciated & Thank you.

This room was right above where the rooms were being renovated below. The drilling sound vibrating thru the walls. After a long journey with meetings lined up, we need to rest not accomodate and compromise for the next hours until this work ends. Requested again and was moved to another floor - Appreciated & Thank you.

It's an older room but since it was quiet and we could work and sleep we accepted it with much relief - Appreciated & Thank you.

Just an hour ago, we were about to tuck into bed. Pulled the top sheet and saw strands of hair. Small matter and picked it off, my friend decided to hop onto the extra bed. Pulled the top sheet and saw three dried dotted blood stains and cringed. Were these rooms cleaned at all? Are not the SOPs at a higher level during this period?

Housekeeping came over to freshen the beds and an absolute nightmare to find a huge pale red stain on the mattress itself. We are not even sure what to expect anymore or what did we just check ourselves into. The staff was helpful enough to do his best to change to new sheets and fast. I do feel sorry he had to even witness such a situation in front of guests.

Yes this room is old, the hot water is barely there, black mold on the toilet ceiling etc as highlighted in other reviews, yet that can still be a compromise, but blood stains on the sheet and still being reused??? We have checked into budget and even mediocre homestays across Malaysia who practice better hygiene and care. Four stars this is not.
