First the good: Staff are very friendly, view is amazing & soothing. The vast lobby still holds a lovely sense of the grand vision for this hotel when it was founded. Room was neat and clean. Lovely balcony with a little table for enjoying a late night aperitif overlooking the lake.
The mediocre: Moving out of the lobby you will go into a hotel in sad decline. This is the authentic "distressed" look that is so carefully reproduced on retro furniture.
The food...is optimistically "mixed" quality - realistically though - it totally ruins a meal to have stale items show up on your plate. The "wellness" theme seems a little tongue in cheek when "fish and chips" is recommended for the omega 3 in the fish.
No toothbrush in room, but very quickly provided by the friendly staff.
The pool...scary water colour may just be part of the natural beach look...but regardless...it is a little off putting.
The bad: This is sadly what drove me to write a review.... "Internet" service can only operate on one device per room. This is extremely frustrating for the modern business traveller! A phone and laptop at a minimum. For myself, Two phones, two tablets and an ultra-book - EXTREMELY frustrating to only be able to connect one at a time through clunky internet login. As soon as second device logs in, first device will be booted. This is insane...I don't even know why it is so incensing...one internet connection is better than none...but there you have it. Drove me crazy.
The future: Seriously - this is one of the most amazing vistas in KL - it is devastating to see so much potential squandered through neglect. I don't really know much about these things, but it would seem a good investment to get a maintenance guy to start repairing the obvious defects like distressed paint, torn curtains, missing power sockets. And as for the IT that drive me crazy - every other hotel I have ever stayed in does not have this problem - so it is probably...
Read moreWe booked 3 rooms as we were gonna catch a Kpop concert at the MIECC. I sent a message to the hotel to ask how far was the MIECC away from the hotel. For 3 weeks, no reply from the hotel. |On May 31, we checked in at around 2.30pm after a 7-hour drive from Singapore. Mr Qader attended to us. He informed me that we were given Rooms, 409, 413 and 415. However only 409 and 415 were ready. 413 was still being cleaned. He wrote down 413 on one card holder and told us to return in an hour's time to collect it. Since the room was already allocated to us, we did not collect it till after the concert. Upon collecting the card to Room 413, the staff gave us Room 517 instead. Upon questioning the staff said that the previous guest staying at Room 413 had asked for an extension. Then the staff changed the story to the Aircon had broken down in Room 413, hence they needed to allocate Room 517 instead. My niece took the key card to Room 517 and went to the room. As she was sleeping alone, she was scared to be far away from her parents in Room 415. In the end, no one used Room 517. The whole family squeezed in Room 415 for the night. |The next morning, we saw a family coming out of Room 413, going for their swim. Well, the staff said the Aircon had broken down in Room 413.....the family could take it??? |Up till now, still don't know why our room was given away to another family. Sad sad |We gave a poor rating on the hotel booking website and then we received an apology (WhatsApp )from the Front Desk Manager, Mr Ku Guang Yi. He apologised that our room was not cleaned properly. I told him to go and read my review and get the whole story right before sending out any message to any guest. Haha he blocked me on WhatsApp already. |I really hope the real owner of this hotel reads this review because his staff is leading the hotel to its demise. |By the way, the Aircon in Room 415 leaked the entire night creating a small pool...
Read moreLocation was good with a short drive out from the toll. You don't need to drive into the city centre and face the dreaded jams. A huge shopping complex just beside (~2mins drive). Very convenient.
The hotel was a bit old. You can imagine their original concept but mostly now are all abandoned. Common area cleanliness was ok. Plus point was that you'll be greeted by a huge and very nice lobby. The mini beach was OK but the 'sea' water was very dirty. The idea was to contain natural water from rain (like sea) but due to the size was very small, the water was not 'changed'. If it was a pool, you'll have water filtration and even cleaning occasionally.
The room was acceptably spacious for a standard room. However the cleanliness was very poor. The bedsheets have stains on them (see photo) and we had to request for a change. The carpet and floor was dirty too. Our feet was dirty / black on the sole after walking on them. So we had to wear our shoes in the room.
I would like to end the review with a positive though. The staff friendliness and service were above expectation. Check in was fast. The front desk staff was friendly. We even had small chat while checking in. Later on, We had a request for help on the room tv and asked for maintenance help. The staff came immediately even though we said come 1 hour later as we knew the Muslim staff was breaking fast. However, the staff who came to our room only had a simple break and he said he will eat after attending to our issue. We felt guilty but appreciated his fast response. Everytime we drove into the front of the hotel, there was always a friendly staff who came and prepared to provide whatever necessary assistance. Even when there was nothing for him to do, he will still stand at the side watching and ever ready to help, when needed.
All in all, a good experience made sweeter by the staff. Kudos. Would get 5 stars if the room condition can...
