We drove 3 ½ hours from Playa Del Carmen to Bacalar, the drive was easy since you stay on Federal Highway 307 all the way. This is our 1st time in this amazing and beautiful town and we’re not disappointed. I have been to the Mexican state of Quintana Roo numerous times but on our first visit to Bacalar. Thanks in part to Jinny’s Kitchen (Korean TV show) for introducing us to Bacalar.|Poza Clara is a small hotel with only 7 rooms. It is in a great location and everything is within walking distance of the hotel. 5-minute walk to small grocery stores (keep in mind, Bacalar is like a fishing village) such as Big Willy’s, Six, Abarrotes Dunosusa, etc. It is also within 5 minutes' distance to restaurants, shops, a bakery, the center of town, and Fuerte de San Felipe fort.|CHECK-IN: The check-in process is quick and easy. The male receptionist is not fluent in English but tried his best to explain and answer all our questions, at times using a Google translate-like communication. Even with our limited Spanish and his limited English, we were able to get the information we needed. So, kudos to the male receptionist (unfortunately, I did not get his name) who was ready with a smile and was nice and patient with us. Note: We booked our stay online with an option to “pay later at the hotel”. In the future when I have this option, I will pay in Mexican pesos on check-in or prepaid the hotel stay in full online. The reason is, the dollar-to-peso conversion is different for each establishment and I felt like we ended up paying more.|ROOM: We booked the Deluxe Room 1 King Bed with a full kitchen next to the pool. Our room is spacious, the bed is comfortable with some pillows and flat sheets. I’m always cold, so I wish I brought my travel fleece blanket because I got cold in the middle of the night. The kitchen has a coffeemaker, 3 cookware, glassware, silverware etc. The room has a lot of closet space, the safe is located inside the closet, and Netflix, free wi-fi, etc. Make sure to bring your own toiletries because they only provide liquid soap in a dispenser. They do not provide water bottles in the room, but they have a water dispenser located in the front desk where you can refill your water bottles. |PARKING: Parking is free, they have a very small parking space inside, but you can also park on the street. The hotel is in a safe neighborhood, so no worries.|POOL: They have a good-sized pool for a small hotel which is a plus. The pool is always clean, and it seems that it gets treated every night cause the water appears clear every morning. We enjoyed it since it is just outside of our doorstep. |MEALS: There is no free breakfast included with the stay, but you can get 20% off your meal every time you dine in at BAHAREQUE restaurant which is located next to the hotel. We ate our breakfast there every day and...
Read moreActually found this place as a blessing in disguise. We initially wanted a hotel next door but they were booked out and decided to try this hotel and what a surprise it was! It looked very elegant and one would think they would be asking a heavy price tag only to find out it was slightly cheaper than the other hotel we wanted. From the outside everything looked classy and elegant which reflected the rooms as they were very clean and cozy with 2 beds, air conditioning, closet area, a Samsung Smart TV (32 inch) mounted, and a poolside view. Another convenient thing is it's location as it's nearby the lagoon with around a 2min walk to book tours to visit the various Cenotes and lakes via a boat and the other direction of the hotel leads directly to the large Central Park with surrounding restaurants. Highly recommend Poza Clara Sanctuary if you ever end up in Bacalar as the quality and the price is...
Read morePoza Clara is a beautiful small hotel perfectly located in Bacalar with only a few blocks from the main square and a couple of blocks to the lagoon. The rooms are beautiful and very clean and the surroundings of the hotel has lots of greenery which created a very calm feeling. When we stayed there were only one other couple except us at the hotel so we had the pool to ourselves and it felt very private and intimate. We would definitely go and stay there again if we go back to Bacalar. We have an 8 month old baby and it was the perfect place to stay with a small baby. The staff were exceptional at Poza Clara with Roger, Misael, Florencio and Shover in the reception; Nelly and Perla in the kitchen; Nere who’s taking care of the rooms and last but not least Juan and his wife who owns the hotel showed us great hospitality. I only have good things to say...
