Bacalar, often referred to as the "Lagoon of Seven Colors," is a stunning lagoon located in the town of Bacalar in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. This lagoon is renowned for its striking range of blue and turquoise hues, created by varying depths and types of sediment on the lagoon floor. The crystal-clear waters, coupled with white sandy bottoms, give it a radiant, almost otherworldly appearance.
The lagoon stretches over 42 kilometers (26 miles) and is surrounded by lush vegetation and small Mayan ruins. Activities in Bacalar include swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, and exploring nearby cenotes (natural sinkholes). The town of Bacalar itself offers a charming, laid-back atmosphere with small hotels, eateries, and local markets, making it a perfect destination for relaxation and ecotourism.
Key attractions include the Cenote Azul, a deep cenote ideal for diving, and the Fort of San Felipe, which provides historical context and panoramic views of the lagoon. Bacalar is also part of a designated Pueblo Mágico (Magic Town), recognized for its cultural richness and...

Bacalar Lagoon, often called the "Lagoon of Seven Colors," is an absolute gem. The shades of blue in the water are truly mesmerizing—ranging from crystal-clear turquoise to deep indigo, depending on where you stand. It's one of those rare places where nature's beauty feels untouched and pure.
What struck me the most was the tranquility. Unlike other touristy beach spots, Bacalar feels peaceful and slow-paced. The gentle lapping of water, the soft breeze, and the lack of crowds make it perfect for anyone looking to disconnect and recharge. Whether you're kayaking, swimming, or just lounging by the shore, the calm vibe is something you can’t put a price on.
Highly recommended for nature lovers, photographers, or anyone who just needs a break from the noise of everyday life. Bacalar is serenity in its most...

Even tho we hadn’t really have a good sunny weather (it was rather cloudy), it was still nice to do the tour and see at least 3-4 colors of the lagoon (during summer crystal clear sky days, you can see 5-7 colors). We enjoy the whole place, boat ride and especially swimming in the lagoon, since the water is warm and super clean! When you take a boat tour here, you have also kayaks included in the tour price, so after you see the lagoon from the boat, you can enjoy it by yourself in the kayak, super recommended! We were also lucky enough to see a turtle (which we were said is not...
