HELL IS A PLACE ON EARTH. The biggest, most embarrassing scam i’ve ever fallen for in my entire life. This is not a hotel, nor a resort—it is a massive dump. Do not fall for the average rating you see on trip advisor and google. The negative stars are covered by paid bot reviews that bump the overall score to fool others into believing that this is a good place to stay. Spoiler! It’s NOT. The 5 days that were spent here were some of the most disappointing, most horrendous days of my life. Why? More like why not. 1. Starvation. The food was undeniably THE ABSOLUTE WORST slop i’ve ever had. The “restaurants” for in the all-inclusive plan are not restaurants, they are literally shacks. Iguanas (buffet breakfast, lunch, dinner) was so disgusting I get nauseous just remembering it. The “tai” “restaurant” that you needed a reservation for was literally ONE TABLE inside of where the sushi bar is, which was the driest sushi i’ve ever had. But the actual tai food? It was served in “courses.” First course: one baby spring roll cut in half. I thought it was a joke. Second course: bland soup. Third: some shrimp noodle cup? Literally so gross. Fourth: The most rubber-like pieces of beef served with a throw-up of a sauce. I was truly appalled. Also, i don’t know how it’s possible to mess up a burger to the point where it’s inedible, but boy, did they accomplish that too! I don’t need to say anything about the pizza, just look at the pictures. There is also a mexican “restaurant.” Again, the pictures speak for themselves. We no-joke survived purely on boxed cereal. If you have any taste buds at all, you will book somewhere else. 2. Atmosphere. The pictures you see online are NOT even close to what the place actually looks like. Like not even in the same universe. If you want a reality check, you can check out my pictures. The resort is NOT SAFE in the slightest. For starters, there are gaping holes in every walking path, holes on the tennis court, and holes by the pool. Total safety hazard. The bottom stairs to get to the beach were also broken. Another safety hazard. Outside of these accidents just waiting to happen, the beach was SO dirty (and small) and the pool looked like one from a community center. Everywhere you look, it’s clear that no one cares about upkeep or presentation. 3. ROACHES. Yeah you read that right. We found a dead roach in our bathroom. Speaking of the bathroom, it is very poorly designed. Water leaks out of the shower all over the floor no matter what you do. The room itself was so small and wreaked of bleach when we first got there. No balcony either, only a tiny window. Cherry on top was the power going on and off all throughout the night for our last night there, waking us up every 5 min. 4. Language barrier. Barely anyone here spoke any english. The food was all labeled in spanish. The best day of our whole trip was the one day we left this dump shack and saw chichen itza. On the bus ride back, we were crying because we didn’t wanna come back. You know it’s bad when you’re counting down the days to go home.

We had a great 2 night stay. This was the last leg of our 11 day trip and we chose this hotel because it is right next to the Tortugas Dock that has a bunch of different excursions from it. The ferry to Isla Mujeras is also right next door. 5 minute walk on the beach and you are there. We stayed in room 1007, which was only a $20/night upgrade. We had the best view of the Caribbean and the sunrise. There is a little back porch which faces the ocean. They stock the fridge with beer, bottled water, sparkeling water, and sodas. The safe, unfortunately, didn't work. But, our room was never messed with and is easy to lock up. The beach is a few steps down the stairs and is perfect for families, relaxing, and shallow water snorkeling. I saw colorful fish, squid, and a crab right next to the beach. The beach is public byt not crowded (in September). There are several loungers to lay on as well. The hotel itself is a bit outdated. The pools are good and there are 5 to choose from. The main restaurant is pretty good. We are foodies and could find something to eat each time that was delicious. The restaurant is not air-conditioned though, but there are fans. You can ask to sit in front of them. We did have an issue with a guest who asked to have their fans turned off and that made everyone else in that section hot. Not really the hotels fault but they could have moved her to the patio which has no fans. There are several other afternoon restaurant/snack bar options but I didn't try them. The hotel room was very comfortable. We love it cold in our room and the ac kept the temp at 61 °F. The king bed was hard but comfortable and the pillows are OK. Not the best down pillows but good enough. There are hammocks all over the beautiful grounds and plenty of places to lounge outside. This hotel is not very ada friendly. In a pinch, you could make it work. They also offer a gym and spa. There are iguanas and peacocks on the grounds as well. We were celebrating our birthdays and they decorated our bed and left us a little cake that was amazing. Overall, we loved this place and will be back.

My recent stay at Dos Playas was profoundly disappointing, falling far short of even modest expectations. **Room Quality:** The rooms were a stark contrast to the appealing images online, featuring an outdated, depressing reddish-brown color scheme and dim yellow lighting. Cleanliness was a significant issue, highlighted by cockroaches on the first day. One on our bed and another in the bathroom. **Beach Condition:** Despite being a beachfront hotel, the beach was poorly maintained, littered with trash and algae. This was in stark contrast to the cleaner shores of nearby hotels. No effort from hotel to keep clean. **Security Concerns:** The lack of an interior lock in the room was a serious security concern. **Misleading Advertising:** The actual room bore little resemblance to the advertised pictures. The management acknowledged the discrepancy but offered no resolution. **Furniture Quality:** Even basic furniture like the desk was sticky and poorly maintained. **Value for Money:** For the price, the quality was extremely lacking. Another hotel at a similar price offered far superior accommodations. **Beach Accessibility and Amenities:** Despite its beachfront location, I cannot recommend this hotel. The beach itself had very limited seating, with only a few chairs available and at an exorbitant rental fee of 500 to 1,000 pesos a day, unlike other hotels that offer this for free with ample availability. There was also a notable lack of shade, making it difficult to enjoy the beach comfortably. In summary, Dos Playas was a letdown in nearly every aspect, from room quality to beach amenities. There are undoubtedly better options in the area, even if it means sacrificing a direct beach view(not that youll enjoy it here)

This place has so much potential to be even better than it is. Check in was quick. The rooms aren't the most modernist but are clean and the bed is very comfortable, I have an Emma mattress at home and could compare it to being similar, the bed was huge!! |There is a free to use safe and a small fridge with water. There is also a iron and ironing board and a hairdryer.|There is plenty of wardrobe space and a desk with deep drawers.|We had a balcony with 2 chairs but could've done with a table as no where to put drinks etc.||The food was amazing. I'm a fussy eater but always found something to eat. Breakfast there are freshly cooked to order omelettes as well as waffles (these are amazing 😋) and all the other stuff you would find at breakfast, cereals, fruit, yogurts etc.|At lunch there was show cooking with a variety of dishes. Also there is a pasta station which freshly cooked pasta to order. |Thursday night is Mexican night in the garden (no restaurant) I did struggle to find something to eat on this night. They also do other themed nights in the restaurant. We were there 2 weeks and these nights were repeated weekly.|If you have children that are fussy eaters they might struggle to find something to eat. There is a snack bar that serves, burgers, chips and hot dogs throughout the day and also pizza too so good idea to use these if you have fussy eaters.|2 bars at either end of the resort, the one by the 2 pools which does the burgers/hot dogs and chips, make the best Pina Coladas. This one is open 11am-6pm and the other bar is open 10.30am-10.30pm. ||There is some entertainment every night around 8pm but this is usually finished by 9.30pm.||There are 5 pools altogether. One by the Iguana restaurant which has aqua aerobics, volleyball etc going on and a smaller children's pool nearby.|Over the other side of the resort is 3 more pools, 1 deep one, 1 medium size one and another smaller children's size pool (up to about knee deep for adults).|There are plenty of sunbeds all around the resort and not just by the pools, on sun terraces too. There are no umbrellas which move, just fixed thatched umbrella style ones and a couple of shaded areas from trees. There are a limited number of beds that are in shaded areas. There is steps down to the beach, again plenty of sunbeds and limited shaded ones. There isn't many sunbeds by the pool that has activities on (13 I think) and they are all under the shade. |There is 2 access points to the beach, either end of the resort. Another small addition of tables with the sunbeds would be amazing as there is nowhere to put your drinks etc.||The inflatable water activity shown in the hotel pictures is no longer there so this picture should be removed.||The resort is very clean, there is always someone, somewhere cleaning something, wether it's the guy cleaning up seaweed from the sand or the one in the pool cleaning the tiles. However, there are some cracked/chipped tiles in some of the pools.||Although there are various slopes around the resort, if you had serious mobility problems then these might cause some issues to access certain parts of the resort.||There is a small shop on site selling a limited variety of things. There is also an Oxxo convience store next door to the right of the hotel about 2-3 min walk.||They provided a cake in the room and balloons on our arrival as it was my husbands birthday. We also celebrated our 25th anniversary there and was given a bottle of wine, balloons and some towel art which was lovely.||All in all, we were very impressed with our stay, a good solid 3 star resort. Would recommend staying here and we would certainly go back.||Would also like to mention Guadeloupe in the Iguanq Restuarent who kept us supplied with drinks before we even finished the ones we had and was always so happy and just a generally genuine guy. He's a credit...

We were very disappointed with this hotel, especially with the food, the soft drinks and the quality of the facilities. We spent 3 nights out of 5 nights planned. I had never anticipated checked-out in my life before. So let's talk about the main down points: juices were probably made out of powder and the coffee was at the worst standard I have ever tasted in my life. When I asked the employees and the manager if they take them, they also said they did not like their taste. It is very depreciated in terms of infrastructure, some wood decks and plywood were in very bad shape and seem even risky in terms of safety. The shower had no hot water, the maximum it would achieve was room temperature in the strongest level of the hot water faucet 100% open and the cold one completely closed. The staff was kind, but very unprepared to deal with adversities. Even if I complained about it, nothing was done to fix it. The sink faucet would splash water all over the countertop. The events and activities are very little, you get bored. Also, the party on Thursday evening had no vegetarian or pescatarian options other than a flat taco with lettuce. And the other restaurants were closed. The omelet line is right at the entrance of the restaurant, so people line up at the main door and no one knows if they are there for the buffet or the omelets. The main pool has its recliners taken from 8 am every morning and there was never a way to get a spot there, unless you wake up along with the peacocks. I saw chairs for hours unnocuppied, but with a towel on them, and there was nothing being done to solve the issue. They make a huge protocol to collect and return the towels, via towel card. Some recliners were broken too. We were not informed about a second restaurant existing in the other Maya Caribe partner hotel, which seemed a bit nicer as the one in Dos Playas Faranda, and we only discovered it on our own in the second day, because I was walking on the sand for like 5 min. Basically, they gave us a sheet upon checking in, but did not explain much. The problems in either hotel and restaurants are the same. The shampoo and soaps were of very poor quality, as well as the overall sheets and pillows. The mini fridge in the room had only 2 bottles of water. The windows are not sound proof. On the other hand, the cleaning staff and a few of the waiters are exempted of any critics, because they were doing a great job. A few waiters would ignore you and take forever to come see if you needed anything. Thus, all of our critiques go to the management / supervision staff that were not present in the areas that matter, but stayed mostly in the lobby. This hotel lacks care and customer success best practices to evolve. It is not even a 3 star to my point of view. It is a 2 star tops. And definitely does not reserve 4,1 out 5 stars as per the reviews here. It feels bad to complain... Cancun is such a magical area, the sea, the sand and the sky are so pretty; however, I would never return to this hotel and would not recommend it, unless they really put an effort to grow and makes things at least 10 times better, for the price I was charged... our so well deserved vacation... the experience was bad, and we had to pay to start another reservation elsewhere, in order to save the last bit of these...

My overall experience was ok and as the saying goes you get what you pay for because I choose this hotel base on price which I rationalize because of it boutique style and quality…

To my surprise when I showed up nothing about it was appealing except the lobby area that presents well, nice and cool and clean…the checkin personnel was good, but neglected to give us a full overview of where is what except for the food and pool. We unidentified that this was our first time in Mexico and this was our first All inclusive in several years. However that seems to have gotten lost in translation today is my 3rd day and I still don’t know where the gym is located….

The service, the host that escorted us to our room was very nice and friendly wish I remembered his name but no because we saw him a day later and he totally ignored us walking back and forth doing his thing faking it with others or waiting for his next task. Yes that was the theme of the service received, TOTALLY ignored even when we looked lost of confused because this property is more like a villa than a hotel so trying to find our around the maze was not pleasant. We as visible persons with minorities were even more surprised that except for the manager Miranda, Louis one the servers and the pasta chef no one care to offer us any courtesy and once the supervisor in the kitchen challenged me for attempting to take some food to my room for my partner who was not feeling well. Once I got the approval he still checked my containers when I was leaving because he thought I was taking too many items. The following days when I saw him he conveniently avoided making eye contact but walked by me while we were dining several times seemingly just to give us the cold shoulder because he knew we were watching him and hoping for at least an acknowledgement that I was faking it or trying to steal food. I reported my experience to the manager and share the fact that we looked different and instead of being embraced was made to feel like we don’t belong or is not welcome. She apologized but nothing changed.

In terms of the property, our room was old and outdated, smell like wet clothes, the shower was dirty and clogged so they had to send maintenance to clean and snake it. The show was missing the other half is the glass door so we had to use the bath towel to soak up the water from the floor (thus the reason for the mouldy water smell)…we had to climb 3 flights of stairs to get to the 3rd floor (maybe that’s why we never found the gym) and along the way the place was just disgusting. Cleaning supplies, brooms dust pans etc in the corner old furniture waiting to be thrown out and just dirty. I complained several times about the wifi that kept dropping especially in my room and this affected my ability to attend a few mandatory meetings..eventually I had to turn on my service and roam which will be a big bill when I return to Canada.

I could go on and on about the dirty beach run down shacks presenting as restaurants etc or the noise or underwear hanging from balconies or the plants around the property but I will stop here….never coming back here.

But my fault for being fooled by the pictures and the price, I got what...
